To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is the Movie to Watch Over and Over Again

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPRM chapter.

This rom-com is an adaptation from the novel by the same name from author Jenny Han, following the protagonist Lara Jean through love, deceit, and new adventures. The movie begins with Lara Jean fantasizing about love through reading romance novels since she has never had a boyfriend. She has a crush on an unattainable guy, and since she can’t say anything to him, she writes him a letter. Once she’s done writing, she hides her love letter in her closet, in a round box next to four other love letters, all dedicated to her past loves.

She has two sisters: Margot, who is going off to college in Sweden, and Kitten, who is in sixth grade. They are a very close family, but with Margot leaving for college, Laura Jean has to become a role model for her younger sister. It’s a whole new school year, and not everything has to change, right? Obviously, that is not the case, Lara Jean has her world completely turned upside down when she realizes her love letters were sent out without her consent, and three out of the five guys from the letters try to confront her about them. Because of this, she makes the decision to lie to everyone, including her older sister Margot. Will she be able to handle it all? Or will it all become a disaster?

This beautiful film has amazing cinematography by Michael Fimognari; he used incredible details to move the movie and make it feel as magical as it should be. For example, there is a shot where Lara is taking the letters and hiding them in her box which made me feel as if they where my letters in my bedroom floor. Additionally, there are countless other scenes that make my heart explode into a million pieces, but you’ll just have to watch it so I won’t spoil everything for you.

The ending is beautiful, Lara Jean finds love, and they live happily ever after (I mean, at least until the rest of the school year, since she’s only a sophomore, but you know what I mean.) There is also a post credits scene that just leaves you begging for more!

It is my new go-to movie when I want to feel happy with love. While I was watching it, I was gasping and having to suppress screams because of the cuteness of the movie! Being in love and having movies that are about love make the world a better place, don’t you think?
