As finals approach, we can feel ourselves little by little getting more stressed, or maybe you have been going through a rough patch these last couple of weeks, or (like I have) the whole year. Something that helps me deal with stress, sadness, and everything in between is music, here are a few of the songs that have gotten me through tough times and might help you too!

1. Defying Gravity

This song, originally from the successful Broadway musical Wicked, is all about realizing that you don’t have to agree with people’s expectations of you and that we are all capable of breaking free from them. There are many versions of this song, from the original sang by Idina Menzel, to a pop version and even a rock version, and is seen as a self-esteem anthem.

2. Don’t Rain on my Parade

From the musical Funny Girl, and sang by none other than the iconic Barbra Streisand. This song going out there and getting what you want, and more importantly not letting anyone choose your future for you.

You can watch Lea Michele’s version.

3. The Climb

Sang by Miley Cyrus in her Hannah Montana days, this song is all about the journey and not the destination. Knowing that we might lose a lot, but we will gain even more. “Life’s a climb, but the view is great.”

4. Eyes Wide Open

From Sabrina Carpenter’s debut album with the same name, this song is about being hopeful for the future, while enjoying the journey and learning as much as possible.

5. Welcome to New York

Written and performed by Taylor Swift from her latest album, 1989, and it’s all about the beauty and glamour of New York City, where you can be yourself, follow your dreams, and be who you always wanted to be.  Since New York is my favorite city, this song helps me visualize my future and think about that when I am going through a tough time.
