TikTok is one of the most popular—arguably the most popular—social media platforms amongst young audiences. It contains all kinds of content for all ages, but one big part of it is fashion. There are different types of styles based on your aesthetic or “vibe”; these aesthetics have even developed their own names and attracted a huge following within the platform. However, there are certain trends that are more prevalent than others and will definitely be big this year when quarantine is finally over (hopefully soon). If you’re not familiar with the fashion side of TikTok, this list of items will surely help you learn the basics of what’s trending.
1. Sweater Vests
Sweater vests are all the rage right now. People are wearing them with jeans, shorts, and skirts and layering them on top of their outfits to add a “preppy” vibe to them. I believe vests are super popular because they are an easy way to add layers to your outfit, and layering is really the look people are going for right now. I actually love it because it could look super classy or very casual, depending on how you style them.

2. Tennis Skirts or Pleated skirts
This is another trend that took TikTok by storm a few months ago and is still going strong. When it first started, tennis skirts were sold out everywhere, which was sad for actual tennis players who complained that they couldn’t find any to use to practice their sport. People bought them all just for fashion purposes. Simple pleated skirts also became popular as an alternative when the tennis ones were sold out. Both look adorable with a sweater vest or crewneck sweater.

3. Shoulder Baguette Bags
This is one of my favorite trends, and I’ve seen baguette bags being used in all different types of styles/ aesthetics. I’ve never been a girl who liked purses, but now I’m absolutely in love with how these look. They just add such pizzaz to any outfit and make everything very chic.

4. Chunky Rings
There have been a lot of jewelry pieces that have trended in TikTok, but I noticed that the most recent addition to the TikTok accessory craze is chunky rings. They are big rings that come in a range of styles or materials; some are very colorful and made of clay or resin, while others are more classy being silver or gold, but still reserve that “ chunky” look. I’ve been wanting to get a pair, but it’s hard because I have very small fingers, so I’ve considered making my own, which is something you can do if you like the clay ones.

5. The Color Brown
Yes, I know, it may come as a shock to many that the color brown managed to become one of the “it” colors for 2020/ 2021. Brown is huge this season. People are making monochromatic looks with brown and going as far as dyeing their clothes this color (even their shoes). It’s been trending for months now, but has recently arrived at its peak popularity. I hope it sticks around because I believe it is a color that suits all skin tones in different ways.

6. Baggy Jeans
Loose fitted jeans or mom jeans have blown up on the platform. It’s been a growing trend since last year, and it’s reached the point where some TikTok users are shaming skinny jeans. I love the baggy jeans, but over my dead body will I ever give up on skinny jeans. I just feel like both kinds of jeans only go with certain outfits, and it’s fun to switch between them. I suggest we don’t cancel skinny jeans, although I admit baggy jeans are becoming a favorite of mine.

7. Patterned Jeans or Pants
Another pants related trend is jeans with patterns or patches and ones made out of materials like leather or corduroy. This is a super fun way to make your outfits stand out more instead of just putting on some simple blue jeans (which are also great). You can easily incorporate some quirky jeans into your aesthetic because there are tons of options when it comes to patterns, colors, and materials.

8. The Color Green—Especially Sage Green
Along with brown, green has taken the spotlight when it comes to TikTok fashion. Many people are even combining the two most popular colors into one outfit. Green, more specifically sage green, is a calming color that screams spring. I’m definitely on board with this trend.

9. Sweaters and cardigans
This, with the baguette bag, is one of my absolute favorite trends. Cardigans and sweaters with cute designs and colors are such a great statement piece for any outfit. The only downside to this is that it’s not very practical if you live in a hot environment. However, if you can handle the heat, I promise you’ll look stunning.

10. Corsets
You might be very confused about why I’m suggesting a corset. However, ever since the hit Netflix show Bridgerton came out, corsets have been trending like crazy. They look beautiful and really flatter one’s physique. You can get some beautiful ones off Amazon in tons of colors.
