1. Bistro Cafe 

Located in Carolina, Puerto Rico, this brunch restaurant is to die for! Their breakfasts include the classics, but with their own delicious spin. Some of their specialties are: s’more waffles, churro pancakes, fruity pebble french toasts, different kinds of delectable omelettes with an array of toppings, chicken and waffles, and more. Some of their lunch specialities include an avocado stuffed with your choice of meat (chicken, shrimp, steak, etc.), scrumptious tacos, amazing sandwiches, ribeye steak with a sunny-side up egg, and other great dishes. Even their drinks are awesome, with choices such as mimosas of all kinds with a popsicle inside them, mocha s’mores coffee/hot chocolate, hot chocolate with waffles attached to the straw (you gotta see it to believe it), lattes with edible glitter, spicy mango margaritas, crème brûlée cappuccinos…the list goes on and on. Definitely a worthwhile visit!

2. Burger and Mayo Lab

If you love juicy burgers (who doesn’t?) and extraordinary drinks/cocktails, then you should go eat at Burger and Mayo Lab. Located in San Juan, this restaurant creates drinks inspired by their lab science theme. With the help of chemistry, they create margaritas that emit smoke and offer wild berry pama drinks that are served in lab beakers and GIANT volcano margaritas that can only be held with both hands. They have different burger choices, but their most mouth-watering option is the Dip Bacon Burger, which is a bacon burger that you dip in cheese. They also make tacos, fried chicken, and giant bowls of killer mac’n cheeses. Another fun fact is that a lot of their sauces, such as mayoketchup,  are given in syringes. If you’re feeling like experimenting, go visit the Burger and Mayo Lab!

3. La Mina Mexicana

If you love Mexican food, then this is the place for you. Located in Toa Baja, La Mina Mexicana makes many great cocktails and different kinds of Mexican food. However, what makes this place unique is that they make “surtidos” (big assorted dishes) with Mexican foods such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and many more!

4. Wood Doughnuts 

Who doesn’t love a good donut? Well, the Wood Doughnuts food trucks in Guaynabo, Bayamón, Caguas, Ponce, and San Juan are a great option to please one’s sweet tooth. Their donuts are creative, aesthetic, and delish. Some donuts consist of many favorite treats such as Kit Kat, Chips Ahoy, Ferrero, Hershey, Oreo, Whoppers and more. They also have some cool flavors like strawberry cheesecake, Dorito and Nutella, bubblegum, popcorn and M&M’s, bacon and Oreo, Oreo cheesecake, and plenty of other quirky flavors.

5. Hacienda Don Jando

If you love typical Puerto Rican food, Hacienda Don Jando in Quebradillas has the perfect food and ambiance for you. Do you have a big family or group of friends? Is it a struggle to find the perfect place for all of you to eat? Well, this restaurant creates a giant assortment that includes a full rack of guava BBQ ribs, parmesan covered french fries, tostones, amarillos, fried chicken and pork balls, and a 12 oz churrasco (skirt steak). It is an enormous feast! They also have other menu items for a single person that are phenomenal, such as stuffed mofongo, risottos, burgers, tacos, steaks, pizzas, mamposteao rice, paella, and more. Hacienda Don Jando also offers vegetarian options that are quite tasty. The ambiance is inspired by the great outdoors, and at night it is lit up by candles and warm outdoor string lights.

6. Bubble Tea Yum

This tea shop located in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, serves the yummiest bubble tea. This delicious drink is also known as boba tea, pearl milk tea, or simply boba.  Bubble Tea Yum offers a variety of teas that you could choose from, and if tea is not your thing, they also sell coffee, lemonade, waffles, sushi, and more! One of their best sellers is the Oreo Bubble Waffle, which is a must-try.

7. Senpai Ramen

If you love ramen, then look no further. Senpai Ramen is the #1 Ramen restaurant in Puerto Rico. Senpai Ramen offer some of the best homemade ramen noodles around. Located in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, not only does Senpai offer a variety of ramen, but they also offer Mazamen and a big variety of appetizers. They also sell Japanese drinks including japanese whiskey, japanese potato distillate, sake, and beers. Aside from the quality food, Senpai Ramen’s waiter’s are very knowledgeable and give you a great service from the moment you walk in.

8. Shugā

Are you a sweet tooth? If so, you are going to love this Taiyaki food truck located in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. It is the first Taiyaki shop located in Puerto Rico that offers a variety of japanese desserts and treats. Some of their desserts include mochi ice cream, cheesecake, crepes, bubble tea, and more. Their mochi ice cream comes in different flavors including matcha, and it is so good it melts in your mouth. This food truck also offers japanese cheesecake, which is a combination of cake and cheesecake. This food truck contains so much more and, most importantly, it’s budget friendly.

9. Otra Cosa Grill

If you are looking for a great brunch experience in the west side of the island, look no further than Otra Cosa grill. This restaurant located in Añasco has some of the best sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas, and omelettes for a budget friendly price! If you want some delicious lunch, they have multiple burgers that are derived from their name like the “Otra Cosa Burger”. The “Otra Cosa Burger” contains a 4.5 oz 100% beef topped with on-the-house chimichurri, lettuce, tomato, sauce, and mayoketchup. If you love to share, they have their combo called “La Parrillada” where you can choose two beef’s and two sides.

10. Sweet LAB

Sweet LAB definitely lives up to its name. This yummy dessert shop located in Añasco, Puerto Rico, serves some of the most delicious treats! Their specialty includes handcrafted ice cream rolls with all sorts of flavors, toppings, and add-ons. One of their best-sellers are the Ferrero and Nutella ice cream rolls. They also offer parfaits, açaí bowls, and yummy frappes. If you are looking for a filling dessert that you can choose and customize, then you must visit this shop.

Currently engaged in two investigative projects aligned with her field of study in political science, she demonstrates a passion for research and analysis.
