When I was 11, my mom began to buy me my first training bras. I would wear them everywhere, I felt as if I was on my way to true womanhood. By the time I was 14, I wanted the pretty “big girl” bras. But my creator told me: “Those have wires honey, they’re not good for you, they will make your breasts sag…” Oh, how we need more people like her in life. #thankyoumom.

I started college two years ago and, in that certain place, one begins to get involved in modern movements, revolutions, and updated knowledge in science, politics, etc. I couldn’t help but notice some women walking around without bras, I felt that I was judging them just by staring. I mean who wouldn’t stare? Why were they not wearing bras? It’s just not “normal”. Of course, I talked to my mom about it and she just said “Good for them! You know, women don’t really need bras right? At such a young age like 19 you should be free, completely braless!” She got me so confused, so I did some research and what I found was just astonishing.

Going braless has slowly become a trend, especially with celebrities such as Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and especially Kendall Jenner, who have popularized the style.

So, without further ado, let’s talk about boobs:

The Science:

(Everything I found on this subject has been a matter of my own independent research on the internet, and in doing so, putting it all in my own words. If you are interested in finding out more about bras then I highly suggest looking for more information on the medical literature, it’s all over the internet)

I found a study that was made recently where they found that wearing a bra leads to toxin accumulation, since the bra holds the breasts in place and compresses the lymph vessels (excuse my science). If you continue to wear a bra, I strongly recommend massaging your breasts after you take it off to help the flow of those fluids.

During my journey of the braless enlightenment I found zero studies that explain why wearing a bra is beneficial for breasts. But there were a lot of cons towards the subject. One site mentioned that bras might even cause breast cancer!

Wait, WHAT!

It is one of the most common cancer women die from nowadays. Should we ignore the fact that these two things happen simultaneously? Just like it took decades for us to find the link between tobacco and lung cancer. But one must be careful when jumping to conclusions, and, anyways, I could not find any proof that bras actually kill people… But let’s look at a brief history:

Using the most resourceful tool to find information (Google.com) I found the history of these booby bags, and it turns out women have been only using bras since the 1920’s. For what reason? They used bras to flatten their breasts to achieve a “flapper” style. Interesting, right? Statistically, the breast cancer diagnosis increased rapidly after this era. It was not until the 90’s that they began selling the Wonder Bra, which is today known as the famous push-up, same decade the Pink Ribbon movement began.

Our boobies do not need support, we just trained them to be supported since our pre-teens, and they eventually loose muscle tone. By training them to be supported since their birth we interrupted their natural growth process. In fact, breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. They actually get saggier from wearing a bra. In a study done in France, they found that women that stopped wearing bras had a 7-millimeter lift in their nipples when compared with regular bra users. But it’s never too late, it can be undone, just as we trained these puppies to “need” support, they can be trained to no longer need it.

The Sport Bra’s Issue

I know women with bigger size breasts have difficulty with exercising and they need that extra tightness of the sport bra to calm the jiggle. Honestly, all sizes of breasts need the sport bra when getting their cardio on.

But let’s look at this way, place your arm on a sling, and after a month tell me you do not notice the immediate granny arms. Why tho? Because your arm has been on a type of unnatural support for so long that it eventually looses muscle tone. Same for your breasts. If you go braless the first days your puppies will beg for that support, and they will start to hurt with all the moving around because we’ve kept them in cages since they were born. It will take weeks, give or take a few (depends on your breast size), for your boobs to become independent and badass like the woman you are! They will develop muscle tone and won’t need support anymore, not even for cardio. That’s right, I said it!

My Experience Going Braless!

Girls… I recently began trying out the braless style and let’s just say I feel so FREE! I think my boobs actually feel emotion, happiness.

I just decided one day to try and go out without a bra. Logically, I wanted to try it and feel as comfortable as possible for my first time, so I used a loose blouse. I went out with my friends that night and told them, excitedly, that I wasn’t wearing a boob cage and it felt so comfy. That is until I began walking around and the breeze would go against me, pinning the blouse closer to my chest (ayeee). I noticed a lot of people staring, or perhaps I was just being paranoid since I couldn’t stop thinking about my boobs in the wild. But, after a while of getting used to free boobies it became normal for people to randomly notice I wasn’t wearing a bra, but I knew that what I was doing was good and felt good. AND I wasn’t the only one, lots of lovely ladies are joining this trend.

TIP: I began this lifestyle change by first buying shirts that are not so exposing such as white transparent-ish shirts, or a material that kind of melts on your skin. So, I started using tops with ruffles, thick fabric, darker colors, designs, etc. Also, one can use nipple tapes if you’re wearing a very exposing outfit. Whatever floats your boat!

I go braless everyday, but when exercising or doing yoga I still use a sports bra only for those occasions since my breasts are still getting used to being on their own (bye bye training wheels). I know women who have bigger breasts and go braless everyday. One can take baby steps, nothing is impossible and having big puppies is not an excuse to tighten them with booby cages. On the contrary, you will get more muscle tone and they will become stronger so it won’t hurt as much when you’re running around like the maniac you are.

An easy step is going braless for a week. See how it goes. And if you don’t like it or feel uncomfortable then if it’s not for you, it’s not for you, and that’s okay! But if you like it then guuuuuurl… #GoBralessToday trust me ladies you will not regret it one bit! Treat yo self and free them nippies!
