Harry Potter mania doesn’t seem like it will end any time soon. From its franchise finale back in 2011, to its theater adaptation of its sequel, the wizarding world keeps growing and filling us with excitement. And surrounding its popularity is the none other, sorting house quiz. But what defines each Hogwarts house? Pottermore defines each house in terms of personality, skills, and virtues.
As a review: Gryffindors stand for their courageous qualities, along with traits like bravery and determination. On the other hand, Slytherins are often “ambitious, shrewd, and possibly destined for greatness.” Hufflepuffs’ qualities and most significant traits include humbleness, trustworthiness, and determination. Lastly, Ravenclaw are known for their wisdom, wit, eccentricness, and overachieving energy.
Each Hogwarts house is distinct, like each major in college. The major you choose could be a clear reflection of yourself and who you would like to be. Therefore, the sorting hat takes your future into consideration. After all, it will define the rest of your life and the decisions you make. So, without further ado, and taking into account each Hogwarts’ house traits and what each major comprises, here is the Hogwarts house you belong to according to your major.
Education and political science majors: Gryffindor!
In Gryffindor, you’ll find the most courageous majors, including justice and education. The future professionals that will graduate with these majors will not only bravely serve the community, but are determined and focused on their goals. Selflessly, their purpose will be to help others and stand up for those who need it. They define what a true Gryffindor is supposed to be.

Pre-med, computer science and general natural science majors: Slytherin!
In Slytherin, you may find computer science and general science majors (biology, chemistry, etc), known best by their UPRRP nickname “los de natu.” Most of the students in biology, chemistry, and other majors relating to science prioritize long-term goals. Usually, they focus on achieving their bachelor’s degree in science to further their academic studies (doctoral degree) in medicine or in a master’s and/or PhD in scientific research. They will become our next generation’s doctors. Just like Slytherins, they are the definition of ambition and dedication. Although we are ALL destined for greatness, our future doctors will not only try to accomplish the best for their patients, but will provide medical solutions that could help advance the future of our species.
As for computer science majors, in an article curated by Pomona College, graduates were asked to share why they chose their major. There was one student that stood out, Abdul Ajeigbe, and he said: “Through code, I can generate ideas that solve user-specific problems, design and ideate possible solutions, and then execute them.” This quote is the definition of ambition towards achieving one’s personal goals towards helping others.
It’s important to clarify, however, although Slytherin is depicted as the antagonist house in the Harry Potter franchise, their traits are essential in our lives. These traits motivate us to continue with valor and determination in every aspect of our lives—both personally and professionally.

Architecture, engineering, and pre-vet majors: Hufflepuff!
Most of the students in architecture and engineering demonstrate a strong sense of determination and dedication. They spend most of their time focused on researching, building, and/or creating content related to structuring pieces together, along with their detailed implications and technicisms, which will eventually help them achieve their long-term goals. It’s impressive! Animal care majors don’t fall behind. Their love for animals and goal to protect their health is characteristic of the Hufflepuff house—might as well be included in the books and movies alongside Newt Scammander and his fantastic beasts.

Communications, social science, and general humanities majors: Ravenclaw!
In Ravenclaw, you may find linguistics, communications, and other humanities and social sciences majors. Just like this house, the students are mostly filled with wisdom, knowledge, and have a knack for learning new things at a quick pace. Although they sure are demanding majors, their students never give up and try their best to keep up with every concept and topic they are discussing/learning. I would say they are proud to be Ravenclaw and they like to show it!
