Thankful for Our Fellow Her Campus Chapters: Anna From HC Lasell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

As part of this year’s Thanksgiving festivities, fellow chapter HC Lasell hosted an interuniversity-style collaboration event in which all participating chapter members would get to know and bond with their assigned partners; all of which belonged to one of four different universities. In my case, I was paired up with none other than Anna Wall: HC Lasell’s President! Throughout our virtual meetup, I had the chance to interview this incredibly talented and multidisciplinary Her Campus member; getting to know more about her chapter and the legacy its members are currently carrying.

Q: What role to you currently fulfill at HC Lasell?

A: Well, I used to be Events Director since my freshman year, although this is actually my first year as President of my chapter.

Q: What are you majoring in?

A: I’m majoring in Events, and minoring in Marketing Communications. It’s really fun!

Q: I can tell you’re pretty passionate about coordinating events. What kind of events do you most enojoy working on? Are you currently working on an events-related job?

A: My favorite events are definitely social ones; though weddings are mostly my thing. As for jobs, I currently work for a wedding dress retail shop. Besides selling dresses, I also do some accessory styling work for our customers as they try on their dresses.

Q: That sounds really fun! Now that I know you a tad better, I’d like to know a bit more about your experience as an HC chapter in Massachusetts. How are you organized and how many members are a part of this chapter? What kind of bonding activities does HC Lasell host?

A: The staff is organized as an e-board. The board includes individuals from a wide range of areas, such as the Events Committee, the Marketing Team and our editors. We currently have 14 members on our chapter. We usually bond over several events hosted throughout each semester. One of our biggest bonding events of the semester was the Halloween Concert we hosted last October. So, we decorated the university’s auditorium, all of the guests went in full costume, we had a DJ, a karaoke session, and we also invited a musician friend of mine that performed a whole setlist! All in all, we had about 125 guests attend the party.

Q: That sounds really fun! Speaking of organizing events and other HC activities, what’s your favorite part about the role you currently play on your chapter?

A: It was super fun! So, you know, this role is actually something I always knew I wanted to end up with; ever since I became a part of my chapter. Since the beginning, I was really looking forwards to becoming the president someday. I think one of the main reasons why I was so sure of this goal in the first place was because I had so much respect for our last president and the way she carried out the leadership of the chapter.

Q: What about your chapter? What do you most appreciate about your team as a whole?

A: I really love how all of our members are always full of great ideas, and how they’re always willing to help out. It’s also really fun and interesting to work with them, considering that we have members from all grades and all sorts of college majors. So, seeing everyone come together on a Thursday meeting, pitch in their ideas and check in on each other regularly is pretty neat!

Q: How has being a part of Her Campus made you a better person?

A: I absolutely believe that, through Her Campus, I have really evolved (both personally and professionally), my writing skills have definitely gotten stronger, I’ve made some new friends, and I have helped create and been a part of so many memories. Out of these, I especially enjoy the fundraisers we hold every year; where we make and deliver “snack-packs” to dorms all across campus. As someone who loved planning events, this was really fun for me to do.

Q: Besides Her Campus, what other extracurricular activities or hobbies do you enjoy?

A: I’m also the vice president of NACE, which is the National Association of Catering and Events. Although carrying out both board board positions (NACE’s and HC’s) can be a bit stressful at times, it’s really fun.

Q: That wraps it up! Thank you so much for you time, Anna. It was a pleasure to have this chat with you and be able to get to know Her Campus Lasell! I sincerely wish the best for you and your chapter, and I hope we can collab sometime again in the future! Also, kudos to you for coming up with this amazing initiative and for bringing us together.

A: Thanks, you too!
