#StyleSaturday: 10 Fashion Trends for This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

One of my favorite seasons has officially arrived: fall! The chilly air caters to both sides of the fashion spectrum; you can either exist in cozy joggers and sweatshirts, tirar la tela and plan your outfits for every day of the week, or a little bit of both.

The fun part about autumn is that you don’t have to go crazy shopping for new items. Instead, you can think about it as an opportunity to use key pieces of clothing as layers.

Here’s a checklist of pieces you should look out for this season. Who knows, maybe you already have some of these items lying around:

Oversized faux leather blazers

Blazers are the kind of fashion staples that easily make anything streetstyle. You can pair them over a classic t-shirt, jeans and sneakers, or even top it over a hoodie and sweatpants.

Oversized crew-neck sweaters

’Tis the season for you to sport your collegiate pride around campus with emblematic university sweaters.

Sherpa everything!

Sherpa is a plush fabric that recreates the texture of sheep’s wool, and it’s everywhere this season. Elevate your look with a sherpa coat this fall, and you’ll feel like you’re being hugged by a stylish teddy bear.

Oversized flannels

Flannels take me back to high school casual days. You can match these items over a graphic t-shirt and a pair of jeans for a casual look, or switch the denim for cozy leggings or sweatpants for a more laid-back vibe. If you still have some flannels lying around in your closet, it’s time to pull them out!

Chunky cardigans

If you feel like the sherpa coat is a bit much for you, cable-knit cardigans are a chunky and oversized option that can get the job done. A bit more laid-back and dainty, this layer will provide all the comfort you need.

Neutral and earthy tones

You know there’s a new season coming when the color palette changes. This summer was more about pastels, and it’s translating into warmer, neutral tones for this fall. Keep an eye out for light and dark browns, hunter greens, black, periwinkles and light gray.

Wide leg trousers

These pants make you look polished when paired with complementary items, such as a wide collar shirt, a long coat or blazer, or a long-sleeved bodysuit. If you’re looking for stores to buy a pair, Zara and Mango are the fail-safe options to go for.

Baggy denim

The 90s mom jeans have been all the rage this year. This season, trendsetters switched out tight jeggings for a looser, denim fit.

 Black and white sneakers

You can never go wrong with a basic pair of white sneakers or trainers; they make any outfit look effortlessly sporty and chic. Black sneakers work great, too! A pair of high-top Chucks look good with practically everything.

Boots!

The new Prada Chelsea boots are all the rage this season, minus the nine-hundred-dollar price tag. Snag a good pair of chunky knock-offs and you’re good to go! Here’s a quick link to a pair on Mango.

Remember what we’ve been discussing this year: the lipstick effect is more powerful than you may think. Just because in-person classes are not an option, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice dressing up for yourself in the comfort of your home or office.
