Stealing the Spotlight: Lemuel Andre Sálamo

Lemuel is two-time champion with UPR-RP’s soccer team and a bronze medalist in “Las Justas” in the event of triple jump with 14 meters and 63 centimeters.

1. HCUPR: When did you begin practicing for the event of triple-jumps in the athletics competition?

Lemuel:  I began two years ago in my sophomore year.

2. HCUPR: And how about soccer, when did you start playing?

Lemuel: I’ve been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. My position is forward and I am currently in the senior national team. In my last competitive year I was given the opportunity to be elected the most valuable player in the LAI.

3. HCUPR: What motivated you to participate in both events; especially in the event of triple jump?

Lemuel: Actually, I am the type of person that loves all types of sports and the triple jump seemed challenging for me so I decided to do it. Once I started, I realized I was good at it. In soccer, I have been doing it since I was very young. My parents represented the University in their respective sports and that motivated me and created that same passion to do the same.

4. HCUPR: What is the thing that you most enjoy about each event or sport? What has been your greatest satisfaction?

Lemuel: I love working hard every day on every practice and see myself getting better. At the end, one sees the result and that makes me feel satisfied.

5. HCUPR: What is the secret to your success?

Lemuel: My secret is God.

6. HCUPR: 3 words that describe you as a person.

Lemuel: Nice, friendly, and dreamer.

7. HCUPR: What is your major and year?

Lemuel: I’m in my fourth year and my major is physical education with a minor in psycology.

8. HCUPR: What are your athletic and academic goals?

Lemuel: I would like to play soccer in Europe and for academics to become a sports psychologist.

Lemuel es bicampeon en futbol y medallista de bronce en las justas con el evento de de Triple salto en las competencias de atletismo con una marca de 14 metros con 63 centímetros

1. HCUPR: ¿Hace cuánto tiempo practicas el atletismo?

Lemuel: Desde hace 2 años. Empecé en mi segundo año de.universidad.

2. HCUPR: ¿Y en el fútbol?

Lemuel: Juego futbol desde los 5 años de edad y mi posición es delantero. Actualmente soy parte de la selección mayor de P.R y en la universidad soy bicampeón de la LAI. El último año tuve la oportunidad de ser el jugador más valioso de la LAI.

3. HCUPR: ¿Qué te motivó a participar en la LAI en ambos eventos? En especial, el de atletismo.

Lemuel: Pues en verdad, soy una persona que me gusta todos los deportes y se me hizo retante hacer ese evento, cuando lo empecé.a hacer me di cuenta que era bueno. En el fútbol, desde pequeño he jugado y mis padres representaron a la universidad en sus diferentes deportes y crearon en mí esa pasión por representar a la universidad.

4. HCUPR: ¿Qué es lo más que disfrutas de cada evento? ¿Cuál ha sido tu mayor satisfacción?

Lemuel: Me gusta mucho esforzarme cada día, cada práctica y ver cómo voy mejorando. Al final uno ve sus resultados y eso me hace sentir satisfecho.

5. HCUPR: ¿Cuál es tu secreto del éxito?

Lemuel: Mi secreto es Dios.

6. HCUPR: Escoge 3 palabras que te describan como persona.

Lemuel: Amable, Amigable y Soñador.

7. HCUPR: ¿Cuál es tu concentración y año?

Lemuel: Mi concentación es educación física y mi segunda concentración es psicología. Estoy en mi cuarto año.

8. HCUPR: ¿Cuáles son tus metas deportivas y académicas?

Lemuel: Me gustaría jugar fútbol en Europa y en metas académicas, poder ser un psicólogo deportivo.
