1. HCUPR: Why did you decide to combine journalism with poli sci?
Emmanuel: I always knew I was going to be in the journalism realm, but politics is something that I am more passionate about. Hence, I decided to combine these two interests to complement journalism with politics and vice versa.
2. HCUPR: What do you like most/least about journalism and poli sci?
Emmanuel: The most I like about journalism is that you get to learn every day a little bit of everything, it’s a career that awakens your curiosity, and therefore, makes you grow into a better person. As for the least, the fact that people in our society don’t appreciate or respect the field. The political science field, I love that it’s a discipline that looks for the well-being of others and I would say the least has to be how some polititians forget about public policy, and that’s something that the discipline explores.
3. HCUPR: When did you get involved with the APEP?
Emmanuel: During my first semester of my sophomore year.
4. HCUPR: Why did you decide to be a member of this chapter?
Emmanuel: I saw it as an opportunity to get more involved in my School, and also, to apply all the things I learn from my journalism courses.
5. HCUPR: You’re also involved with the School of Communication’s Student Council, What made you feel interested to become a part of the SC? What’s your role in the chapter?
Emmanuel: Well, there were many factors that made me become interested in the student council, but I think the most important factor, the causal factor was that the School didn’t have a council that grasped the needs of the students.
6. HCUPR: What are your plans as the new president of the SOC’s Student Council?
Emmanuel: I think the most important thing that we should tackle first is the betterment of the student curriculum, also focus on the student’s academic experience.
7. HCUPR: What does the Student Council mean to you?
Emmanuel: It’s a tool that should enable students to have nothing but the best college experience without having to revindicate their rights.
8. HCUPR: What are your plans for next semester? Plans for your future career?
Emmanuel: Over the short term, I plan to start working hands-on with the student council and to finish my journalism classes so that I can concentrate fully in my poli sci minor. In the long haul, I plan to make a thesis and continue graduate studies.
9. HCUPR: Describe yourself in three words…
Emmanuel: Organized, responsible and caring.
10. HCUPR: Have you done some sort of an internship or co-op? If your answer is no, then have you considered participating in one?
Emmanuel: I worked for one semester at the local press agency Inter News Service. From that experience I literally learned the journalists’ day-to-day: agendas, deadlines and look for the fastest, yet most effective way to tell a story.
11. HCUPR: Have you considered working as a legislator at some point in your life?
Emmanuel: Yes, why not? Without diets or federal bonuses, with the same salary that I had before going to office.
12. HCUPR: Dream job?
Emmanuel: Professor. I think everybody has had one that really impacted their lives.
13. Where do you see yourself in five years?

1. HCUPR: ¿Por qué decidiste fusionar periodismo con ciencias políticas?
Emmanuel: Siempre supe que iba a estudiar periodismo, pero la política es algo más pasional para mí, así que decidí combinar esos dos intereses para complementar el estudio del periodismo con el de la política y viceversa.
2. HCUPR: ¿Qué es lo más y lo menos que te gusta del periodismo y de las ciencias políticas?
Emmanuel: Lo más que me gusta del periodismo es que tú conoces un poco de todo, es una carrera que te invita a auto-educarte y por consiguiente te hace crecer como persona. De la ciencia política, me encanta el hecho de que es una disciplina que, en el fondo, busca el bienestar de las personas. Lo menos que me gusta del periodismo es que se está menospreciando su importancia en la sociedad. Y de la política, pues diría que me desagrada ver como un político se olvida del bienestar de quienes votaron por él por obtener poder, y eso es un hecho que se estudia en la disciplina.
3. HCUPR: ¿Cuándo comenzaste en la APEP?
Emmanuel: En el primer semestre de mi segundo año.
4. HCUPR: ¿Por qué decidiste formar parte de esta asociación?
Emmanuel: Lo ví como una oportunidad para involucrarme más con mi Escuela y desarrollar lo que aprendo en mis clases de periodismo.
5. HCUPR: También estás involucrado en el Consejo de Estudiantes de la Escuela de Comunicación, ¿por qué te interesó estar en el consejo? ¿qué importancia va a tener tu rol ahora?
Emmanuel: Bueno, fueron muchos factores los que incidieron para que me involucrara en el consejo, pero creo que el factor más determinante fue que en la Escuela no había un consejo formado que pudiese atender las necesidades de los estudiantes.
6. HCUPR: ¿Cuáles son tus planes como presidente?
Emmanuel: Entre lo más importante, diría que trabajar para un mejor ofrecimiento académico, crear un salón de estudiantes y desarrollar un sentido de pertenencia para con la escuela.
7. HCUPR: ¿Qué significa el Consejo de Estudiantes para ti?
Emmanuel: Una herramienta que se le facilita a todo estudiante para que pueda disfrutar sus años en la universidad sin que se le impida ningún derecho.
8. HCUPR: ¿Cuáles son tus planes para el próximo año? ¿Planes para tu carrera profesional?
Emmanuel: A corto plazo, comenzar a trabajar de lleno en el consejo y terminar mis estudios en periodismo para enfocarme solo en ciencia política. A largo plazo, hacer una tesis y continuar estudios graduados.
9. HCUPR: Menciona tres cualidades que mejor te describan…
Emmanuel: Organizado, responsable y solidario
10. HCUPR: ¿Has participado de algún internado o práctica profesional en tu campo de estudio? Si contestas NO: ¿te gustaría hacerlo, qué importancia tendría esto en tuformación como periodista y político?
Emmanuel: Trabajé por un semestre en la agencia de noticias local Inter News Service. De esa experiencia aprendí literalmente lo que es el día a día de los periodistas: la agenda, los deadlines, y buscar la manera más rápida y efectiva de contar la noticia.
11. HCUPR: ¿Te interesaría trabajar como legislador en algún punto de tu vida?
Emmanuel: Sí, ¿por qué no? Sin dietas ni bonificaciones y con el mismo sueldo que ganaba antes de llegar a ese escaño.
12. HCUPR: ¿Cuál sería tu trabajo ideal?
Emmanuel: Profesor. Creo que todos tenemos uno que nos ha impactado la vida.
13. HCUPR: ¿Dónde te ves parado de aquí a cinco años?
Emmanuel: Presumo que estudiando todavía, quizás terminando la maestría.
