This girl unknowingly walks the cracked sidewalk of the University of Puerto Rico that she has caused many to turn their heads on account of her style. Whether she is wearing plain shorts to a printed sleeveless dress, Deborah Flores has got style. Surprised to be considered a fashionable person, I sit down with the senior journalism student while we get our nails done in Old San Juan to talk about her style.
Once her alarm goes off, every morning she wakes up and always washes her face and applies moisturizer. “Then, depending on the weather, I wear either shorts, jeans, or if it’s breezy outside, a maxi dress,” explains Deborah. Then off she goes to the University, but not without leaving her classic touches which are her Tous pearl and Tiffany heart bracelets. Her outfits usually consist of her handy high-waisted jeans or shorts and a breezy shirt, especially now that the temperature is rising. If you don’t catch her wearing her classic high waisted shorts with lace on the bottom, you will see her sporting either a maxi dress or skirt paired with sandals to go along with her killer tan.
On a night out, Deborah never, and I really mean never, leaves without wearing heels. Deborah feels that, “heels make the outfits and are sort of a statement. They dress everything up, even jeans.” For a night out in Condado she loves to wear her well-known staple, black high-waisted jeans with her favorite bodysuits from American Apparel. If she wants to dress up to go clubbing to Brava, she always leans toward bodycon dresses or a little something that shows off some skin. It could be a backless dress, or a bandeau skirt with a blouse that shines as much as her personality. Recently she is leaning towards, “Jumpsuits, especially if they are backless and with long pants since I don’t want to look too uptight. They look more put together, elegant, and the best quality is that it is comfortable and effortless.”

In the end, this naturally fashion savvy girl has got it going on, even if she doesn’t even know it! With a nervous giggle, Deborah remarks, “I never thought I would be considered for something like this because, I mostly wear what is right for me and it isn’t what you normally see in Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar.” This comes to show you that you don’t have to be super edgy, à la Lady Gaga or Rihanna to be considered fashionable. Something is considered fashionable when you wear your pieces with style and confidence. So, Keep working those sidewalks as if they were your catwalk and who knows, soon enough I’ll be coming up to you to feature you here next!
