By now, everyone and their mothers know I’m a Batman stan. So, it was not surprising that I, with a few other members, pushed the agenda to make watching The Batman a Her Campus bonding activity. I also dragged my roommates and neighbors to watch it with me. So, here is my review:

Warning: From this point forward, there might be spoilers, so proceed at your own risk.

The Batman follows our favorite orphan, Bruce Wayne, in his second year as Gotham City’svigilante, Batman. He goes against the villainous Riddler, as he tries to solve clues to save the city. With amazing montages and fight scenes, the movie is packed with action.

Now, let’s start with the talk of everyone: the cast. I think everyone was a little surprised when they chose Robert Pattinson to portray the dark hero, and it is safe to say they made an excellent choice. He was able to show what Batman stands for and how manic and sad his need to save the city is. The same can be said about the other main actors in the film that brought iconic comic book characters to life. I have never seen a Penguin more “Penguin” than Colin Farrell’s version (the Penguin of Gotham (the series) is also a great one, but he doesn’t really “look” like him).

The facet of Batman they chose to show is also one of my favorites. We don’t get to see the detective side of Batman in most of the other films, a facet  that I consider to be especially important in what he constitutes as a hero. Beyond the fists and gadgets, Batman is intelligent and observant; both of these being qualities that would sooner or later prove essential to his survival. I also loved the choice of villains. While every villain in Gotham is iconic for their own reason, we always get the same ones: the Joker, Harley Quinn and Bane. Sure, they’re amazing in what they do, but watching them all the time can get boring. So, when I saw that The Riddlerーone of my favorite villains because of his signature riddles, puns and gamesーwas the main villain in this movie, I was ecstatic. I hope they keep bringing other great villains to life, like the Court of Owls and Mr. Freeze (also, bring Poison Ivy back! We need her!). While we had a main villain, we got to see a few others like Falcone, Maroni, Penguin and even the classic antihero Catwoman.

Cinematography wise, it was beautiful! The scenes of Bruce and Selina on the sunset? UFF! The scene with the car explosion? AHH! Every single moment was amazing, while still maintaining the dark Gotham theme.

As a Batman fan, I’m incredibly happy with the results of this film. It has been a long time since I have watched a movie this good. Trust me when I say that the  whole three hours were worth it, so go watch it!
