Movie Monday: 5 Movies For When You Miss The Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

With Christmas right around the corner and winter break coming up, we all know that Netflix is at the top of our to-do list. If you’re looking to get even more into the holiday spirit, here are five Christmas movies we recommend for you. They’re all found on Netflix!

Let it Snow (2019)

Run Time: 1h 32m

Let It Snow is a romantic comedy that takes us on the journey of three different stories. Of course, they’re happening at the same time, and they end up connecting as the film ends. When a snowstorm paralyzes everything, a famous pop star befriends a small-town girl, a guy tries to tell his best friend that he’s in love with her the entire day, and a girl tries to catch the attention of the girl she likes. It all goes down while there are kegs being stolen, a party being planned and a raging snowstorm. Based on the book written by John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson, this film is a cute and cliché kinda movie that’s perfect for when you are in a “fresita” mood.

Holiday Rush (2019)

Run Time: 1h 34m

When Holiday Rush protagonist New York Radio DJ Rush Williams (Romany Malco) loses his job, he desperately searches for a way to take care of his four children and prepare for Christmas. The only option he has is to buy another radio station, but for that to happen, he and his kids have to make some changes in their lifestyle, moving back to their old house included. This rom-com will touch your heart.

Christmas Inheritance (2017)

Run Time: 1h 32m

Sent by her father, Alpha Ellen Langford (Eliza Taylor) has to deliver a Christmas card to her dad’s ex-partner in a small town. She has to be very responsible and prove to her dad that she can manage a few days with just $100 to continue running the family’s business. When she has to stay longer than expected, she starts working as a housekeeper to pay for her room at the Inn. A snowstorm hits the town and Langford has to learn the importance of helping others. There is, of course, a love story, which turns complicated when Ellen’s boyfriend arrives looking for her.

A Christmas Prince (2017)

Run Time: 1h 44m

If you love Christmas movies, you need to see this one! What are you waiting for? A journalist is sent to Aldovia to cover a press conference that the prince will be participating in after his father’s death, which means he’s now supposed to take the throne. The prince doesn’t show up. Amber Moore (Rose Mclver) starts to snoop around the castle. She’s mistaken for little princess Emily’s tutor, who later on discovers her identity, but keeps it a secret. Amber meets prince Richard (Ben Lamb) and they spend time quite some together until he learns the truth about her. After helping the prince become king, Amber goes back to New York and quits her job so she can write the truth about prince Richard. What happens next? Watch and find out!

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (2018)

Run Time: 1h 32m

*Spoiler alert* Yes, Amber Moore and Prince Richard are back, and yes, they get married. This movie is about wedding planning. It’s a lot harder than what the queen-to-be imagines. When Amber sees all that comes with becoming part of the royal family. She stops and decides whether or not this is what she wants her life to be. With the new King Richard having so much work, they start having a bit of trouble getting alone-time. Once again, Amber saves the day with her friends by investigating the root of some financial problems in Aldovia and getting the wedding that she wants.

FYI: The third movie was released this month, in which Amber and Prince Richard are having a baby!

There are a lot of Christmas movie options to check out on Netflix. If you have nothing else to do, or don’t want to do anything, make sure to choose some films for each day of Christmas break and see how many you can watch! Merry Christmas!
