HR Duo: Mario & Ashley

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Names: Ashley Ortiz Rosario & Mario Font Martin

Majors: Human Resources Management & Operations and Supply Chain Management

How they met

Ashley: I met Mario my first day of HUMA class in Freshman Year. Our professor was asking what was our favorite book, what school we came from and all that. I will admit that, when Mario said he came from Robinson School, I rolled my eyes and I sighed. I thought he was going to be one of those pretentious guys from a private school and it sorta annoyed me. Of course, I was wrong. (or was I?)

Mario: Well that’s kind of a funny story. We met on our freshmen year in a humanities class. It was the first day of class and the professors go around asking the usual things they do the first day. Name, school you come from, favorite books, etc. So its my turn to say my info. “Good afternoon my name is Mario Font Martin and I graduated from the Robinson School…” I felt an intense stare to my side. But I finish my bio scared that the person sitting next to me hates me or something. Little did I know this person who nearly killed me with her stare would become one of my most notorious partners in crime. After several months she finally confesses her intent of murder with THE STARE against my person. She told me that she thought I was a snobby rich kid because of the way I said “Robinson school.” Really?! Funny thing is that she pronounces things in English the same way I do and I judge her the same way she judges me. So you know, we’re even.

How they earned the official title- of friends-

Mario: Well, we made it official when we started sharing snacks in class and the electrical outlet to charge our phones. Food is important to me, people who share food with me are the real MVPs.

Ashley: I think we became official friends the first day we fought over which one of us would get to plug in their phone to the wall. Yes, in HUMA class we fought over that, and I think the first time we did was the moment we knew we would be friends. Or at least we acknowledge we would tease each other relentlessly.

Favorite hang out spots

Ashley: ANYWHERE WITH FOOD. We’re such foodies (fatties) that we will hangout anywhere that serves food (or…maybe a beer or two).

Mario: Well, favorite Iupi hang outs I would say the AMO lobby and Starbucks (she thinks I hate it).

Hobbies

Mario: Complain about how we always think we’re going to fail classes but we don’t; judge each other, “grettiar” (this means hang out with Gretta, Asley’s pet), eat, and make people think we’re a couple (this is probably our favorite)

Ashley: We definitely bond over food and anything related to college stuff. We’re so involved in many things that our favorite hobby is to tell each other about those things. Also…comment on people’s clothing or like how they act/walk or whatever. Mario is such a bully and that’s reflected on me.

What do you love most about each other

Ashley: I love that I can tell Mario anything. He has this aura about him that I just know that I can tell him anything, even if it’s very embarrassing. He’ll probably tease me about it, but he will react as the best friend he is. Also, he’s my package deal. He deals with my insecurities, slaps me when I am acting all crazy and tells me when guys are being dumb and I should forget about them.

Mario: I would say it’s how we can get on each others nerves but we can always find common grounds. I think this could be attributed to the fact that we are the opposite sex versions of each other. I know that she will always be someone who, doesn’t matter the time of the day, she’ll always answer the phone and either scold or congratulate me for what i did. In the end we know that we will always be there for each other no matter the distance, the circumstances, the defeats or the triumphs. #Mashley
