Her Campus Recommends: 4 Apps Every College Student Needs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

In a time where technology is a key part of our education and general lifestyle, it’s always comforting to know that you have something to rely on. Maybe you want to travel somewhere, but you can’t seem to find cheap flights or a good place to stay that’s affordable enough for a college student with that case of wanderlust (don’t deny it). Another choice could be that you’re looking for apps to ease your stress and/or anxiety or simply to waste time on.

At the end of the day, most of the time we’re looking for applications that simplify our life because, essentially, that’s what they’re made for. The hard part is finding ones that are worth your time and don’t cost you a thing.

Here are four applications our members have put together for you:

Number 1: Animal Crossing Pocket Camp

This nostalgic favorite takes us back to those DS days where the biggest problem we had was Resetti the mole getting mad at us for closing the game without saving our progress. Now, with the game being in the app store, we can explore a newer version of the animal-filled world we know and love. The best part of this app, apart from being free (if you avoid in-app purchases), is that it has a relaxing pace with neutral tunes that help calm and relax you. Nothing better than a game that helps you sit back and forget your day-to-day problems and anxiety for just a moment—unless you start worrying about all the furniture you have to make!

Number 2: Hitlist

Like most college students, travel is a must on my bucket list. Hitlist helps out by bundling all the cheapest fares to my goal destinations all in one convenient app! The download is free, and it’s compatible with iPhones and Androids! Turn on the notifications, so you can gain instant pick-me-ups after you see a great price tag for a goal city like New York City, Miami, or San Francisco!

Number 3: Unidays

Unidays is AH-MAZING for all of your student discount needs! It’s always updating coupon codes and sales, and it has a very organized list by category for when you want to save some cash when you shop. Perfect for the college student budget.

—Ileana Meléndez, 19

Number 4: Redungeon

This game app is free, and it’s a total time waster. It’s a great game with vintage graphics; think 8-bit animation. It’s an obstacle course where you collect coins to unlock different characters: a pirate, a robot, Medusa, and more. It’s really fun, and it’ll get you hooked for hours on end.

If you’re always looking for a new app to add to your phone’s home screen, then we hope one of these gems makes it! If you have any other app recommendations apart from the ones we mentioned, leave a comment below.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Josie is a senior in the UPR-Río Piedras campus, majoring in English Literature. When she's not on campus, you can find her browsing a bookstore (as if her TBR pile isn't big enough already!). Books and writing are what drives this girl--apart from fighting to destigmatize mental illnesses and raising awareness about the importance of consent. Josie enjoys traveling, bingeing on spicy food and a lot of sweets, blasting Bieber, and adding shows or movies to her Netflix queue that she'll never get to. Josie is a junior editor for the Rio Piedras chapter in Puerto Rico. If you want to see what else Josie is up to, you can catch her on her bookstagram.
