El gran reto de trabajar y estudiar

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

How to deal with study and work

It’s no secret that being a college student is hard, especially if you have to study and work at the same time. Some of us work because we like feeling a little proactive, but others do it because it’s simply necessary.

Solange, a senior at the University of Puerto Rico, said that she has to work all the time because she’s economically independent and needs to comply with her responsibilities. The biggest challenge for her is to maintain a well-balanced life. Aside from studying and working, Solange is also an active member at her community church, which seems to consume most of her time.“You have to juggle everything and make the most out of the time you have.”, she says.

Another collegiette from the School of Communication said that another adversity can be having a relationship while studying and working, her particular case. One of the biggest distractions from your studies and work can be having a boyfriend/girlfriend. So, how did this student deal with the situation? There clearly isn’t time for a lot of things to do. “I can’t take a nap or go to the beach on the afternoons. I just can’t do things that other student whom may not have adult responsibilities are able to do”, she says.

Students who work and study seem to enjoy the best of everything. They might get more stressed out than other students who focus completely in their studies, but they are definitely making the best out of their time! The greatest pay-off for them is not only getting the professional experience, but also growing into an independent human being. So, take on the challenge of studying while working because the opportunity is totally worth it!
