Campus Cutie: Sofia Candelario

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Independent? Check. Great sense of humor? Check. AMAZING baking skills? CHECK! Sugar, spice and everything nice is really the only way to describe Sofia: a headstrong collegiette who doesn’t let anything or anyone get her down. Meet this week’s fabulous Campus Cutie, Sofia Candelario!Name: Sofia CandelarioAge: 21Major: Public Relations and Advertising , with a minor in MarketingZodiac sign: TaurusFavorite TV shows: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, Revenge.Favorite artists: Gavin Degraw, Maroon 5, Plain White T’s and …. One Direction (my guilty pleasure)

HC UPR: Let’s start with the basics. What’s your favorite type of food?Sofia: I love Italian food – pizza and pasta are definitely my favorites. I’m a bit of a foodie so I have to mention that I love desserts as well – you can’t possibly live without them!

HC UPR: What’s one place you’d like to visit?Sofia: Italy – the food, the accent, the sights…everything about it seems exciting.

HC UPR: What do you like to do in your spare time?Sofia: It all depends on my mood. I love to stay active, mainly dancing. I have practiced ballet since I was 3 years old, and I also used to be a cheerleader, and I love doing cardio. I also love baking – no matter what mood I’m in.(side note: Sofia was my roommate for a whole semester abroad – I can definitely say her brownies are AMAZING)HC UPR: Let’s talk about your achievements. What has been your favorite experience so far?Sofia: My favorite life experience so far has got to be the Cordova & Fernos Congressional Internship Program. I lived an entire semester in Washington D.C., working in a Congressional office. It was my first time living by myself, and the experience helped me learn about myself and grow professionally and personally.

HC UPR: Wow! That sounds like quiet a learning experience. Now, what about your future career plans? Grad school?Sofia: Graduate school is a definite option for me, as soon as I finish my bachelor’s degree this year. My first choice is American University in Washington D.C., and pursue a master’s degree in either International Communications or New Media. Another option is the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in New York. As for career goals, I’d like to work at a public relations agency, focusing on social media and the new wave of it, and eventually, I’d like to have enough money to open my own bakery. It’s been a dream of mine.

HC UPR: What’s your favorite quote and why?Sofia: “She was fiercely independent. Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years, she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday. And I’m not sure she even knows it.” I love this quote because even though most of the time it seems that I am completely sure of myself, there are always moments when I doubt myself and when I wonder if what I’m doing is right, or enough…but then I remember that I still have a lot to learn about myself, and that makes all the difference because that’s what makes me unique.  And of course, because it is freaking BROOKE DAVIS.
