Campus Cutie: Ignacio Rodríguez

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Name: Ignacio Rodríguez

Major: Finance and Spanish-American Literature

Graduation Year: May 2013

Relationship Status: Single

Why did you decide to combine Finance with Spanish-American Literature?

I have to admit I didn’t have the courage to study my passion. But in my third year I decided to take some classes in humanities, philosophy, and art… I fell in love. Since then, I’ve been writing a saga, poems, and short stories. Finance, well, I didn’t hate or love it. It’s something I’m sure I’ll put it to good use in the future, since I’m hoping to open my own business.

What are some things you like to do in your spare time?

I like to listen to music, watch movies, go to the beach, go out with my friends and, of course, write.

What inspires you to write?

I think that my feelings are the true echo and response to what my mind perceives. People should listen to their feelings, not always follow them, but listen. Men often get a bad rep for being closed-off when it comes to discussing feelings. I want to create something that shows how a man can open up and share what he truly feels.

If you could be any celebrity, who would you be? Why?

I’d like to have Humphrey Bogart’s flow, Denzel Washington’s fury, and Jared Letos’ heart.

What do you look for in a significant other?

Nowadays there seems to be a misconception of what a significant other should be. There’s no equality. I want a relationship where no one holds more power than the other. I want someone who’s my friend. I look for a woman with vision and true tenderness (which is pretty much extinct).

Best date.

It’s stupid, but I think I’d say it was in 8th grade. We went to watch a movie. My hands were trembling because I hadn’t kissed much and I knew she expected me to kiss her. Luckily she had the courage. From then on, we didn’t watch the movie.

What is your proudest achievement?

Having the courage to say loud and proud that I’m writing a novel. I don’t care if it’s published or if it sucks. I care that I’m making something that comes naturally from my soul and that I want to do with all my heart.

What is your worst quality?

My worst quality is being too honest. Sometimes I have to self-impose silence.

What is your best quality?

I can be a bit of a grump with the people I love, and it’s because when I love, I love for real.

Finally, do you consider yourself a cutie?

I guess that depends on the person who sees me. Ask them (hahaha)…
