5 COVID-Safe Activities to Celebrate Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Galentine’s is probably one of my favorite days of the year. It’s a great opportunity to spend some quality time with my best friends to just talk about everything and anything. However, this year has turned a little sour. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the way we communicate has changed, and we’ve adapted to this new reality in order to stay safe and healthy.

Will COVID-19 restrictions stop me from celebrating Galentine’s? Of course not! And it shouldn’t stop you either. “How can I celebrate it if I can’t reunite with my friends?” you may ask. Well, here I am to give you the answer! All you need is a computer (or a cellphone), a stable Internet connection and fun ideas! You find the first two and I will help you with the third! Here are some activities you can enjoy with your friends to have the best Galentine’s:

Eat lunch or dinner together

A pandemic should never stop you from eating with friends! Prepare your meal and set up FaceTime, Google Meets, Zoom or any other video chatting platform, and enjoy your virtual dinner. You can all prepare your food together or buy from the same place! I will certainly be doing this with my friend circle! COVID won’t break our tradition of eating McDonald’s together on Galentine’s!

Baking competitions

Galentine’s is all about sweets! So why not bake with your friends via camera? You can all choose whatever dessert or candy you want to prepare and just chill in your kitchen while laughing at the chaos. Once you have your baked goods ready, you can enjoy them together.

Movie night (or day!)

Thanks to COVID, this is another activity we can do from a distance. Get your Netflix Party going or go to Rave and watch movies with your friends while chatting. If you want to see their reactions while watching the film, you can all log into a video call platform too! Just plan out which movies you want to watch and go get some snacks.

Play games!

Sure, you can choose to play games like Animal Crossing or other online games. They always make for a good time—but I have a better suggestion! Backyard will let you play multiple games with your friends while you’re on a video call! It has Doodle, Wordplay (it’s like Cards Against Humanity), Camp Werewolf, Letter Tile (Scrabble), Fish Bowl (Charades) and many more games! It also allows you to share screens with your friends.

Who is most likely to

If you’ve been on TikTok recently, chances are you might have seen this trend go around. Basically, you make a Google Form and ask questions of who is most likely to do something or act in a certain way. You can go with basic questions like who is more likely to dye their hair (which, in my case, includes all my friends) or you can go with a theme like book tropes! It’s up to you and your friends. Once everyone answers the form, go make a video call and laugh through the answers together.

A pandemic might stop you from physically sharing a space, but it will never stop a camera from working! So go make some online plans with your friends and have a great time!
