2019 Fashion Trends to Be on the Lookout For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

Just like it happens every year, 2018 hadn’t finished before we were already talking about the fashion trends coming for 2019. These styles appeared in fashion shows all over the world and might become part of your wardrobe. This is what we should be keeping an eye out for in the fashion world during 2019.

1. Fringes

The rise of fringes is one of my favorite trends. It’s reminiscent of the roaring 20’s and has made it back to runways like the New York Fashion Week. Unlike before, you can spot fringes on tops, jackets, and skirts. They are perfect for looking beautiful and different on a special occasion. Fringes can be used in dresses to get into that “ready to dance and party” mood. You can also use them on a suede jacket for a western touch, or a leather one if you’re leaning towards the rockstar look. And with a fringed skirt, you can make a serious but chic look.

2. Beige

This neutral color has taken over 2019, making every outfit look fashionable. It’s easy to pair it with anything in your closet and look good while doing it. So, go ahead and look for cream colored pieces and add them to your outfit for a classy look.

Beige knit makes for the ultra-comfy look while still giving off high-fashion vibes!

3. Neon (70’s & 80’s anyone?)

It’s impossible to miss this trend! Neon colors are making their way in and we are here for it. Since the beginning of the year, we have seen famous people like Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian sporting these looks and, as always, rocking them. If you aren’t scared of drawing attention to yourself, then this trend is a must.

Neon fashion can seem pretty out there, but you can definitely make it casual, just look at Jessie Law.

4. The Fanny Pack

This bag that we didn’t see coming is now everywhere. Some people love it. Some people hate it. The good thing about fanny packs is that you can hang them around your waist and it kind of forces you to take only the essentials, avoiding the clutter that comes with big purses. Even Beyoncé is using them! The best part is that the styles that have been coming out recently are actually really cute. With a pretty outfit, you can make them work and look cool! Shoutout to The Rock for recreating one of his most famous pictures while staying on trend.

5. Animal Print

A no-shocker to finish the list: animal print. Leopard, snake, tiger, EVERYTHING animal print is back after years. Personally, I didn’t think it would make a comeback. Even my mom gave away all her animal print pieces not so long ago (and was lowkey regretting it). We can spot these types of prints on anything from beautifully wrapped-up skirts to coats and boots. Don’t be afraid to give them a try this year! Or combine trends: cycling shorts and animal print.

And now, we are ready to take over the year with the best looks ever. There are a lot of ways to use these trends, check out what outfits you can create with what you already have. Styles come and go so keep that favorite sweater and that amazing handbag in your closet ‘cause there’s a really big chance that it will be back on the runway.
