Your Galentine’s Day Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

Anyone familiar with Parks and Recreation and the genius that is Leslie Knope, is definitely well versed in the art of Galentine’s Day, the second most wonderful holiday on earth (after #NationalDonutDay of course)! Similar to Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day is an opportunity for you to celebrate that special someone, or rather your special someones: your besties! They deserve it; who else has coached you through texts with your crush, made midnight runs with you to Whataburger, enabled your shopping addiction, and dried your tears when things got a little too real?

So how exactly should you celebrate this Galentine’s Day? However you want!

1. Get all dolled up and make a reservation at the hottest new restaurant in town. Queenie’s, Barley & Board, and 940’s (my personal favorite) are all Denton hotspots that aren’t just yummy, but beautifully designed and Instagram ready. If you’re not feelin’ dinner then you could even head to a local watering hole like Paschall Bar, Oak St. Drafthouse, or Eastside and get some cocktails, Sex and the City style. Either way you’ll be the cutest girl gang there because you’ll be celebrating each other.

2. If the restaurants are absolutely stacked, like most will be, take the bull by the horns and plan your own dinner party! Bake a lasagna, put up some cheesy heart decorations, and bring out the fancy china (or let’s keep it real, your nicest paper plates). The possibilities are limitless, Pinterest is your oyster!

3. But if you and your girls aren’t feeling a night out, Galentine’s Day can be just as amazing from home! Jump in those PJs, slather on those face masks, pop a pizza in the oven, and let the bonding begin! Whether you’re crying over the latest Nicholas Sparks movie or shielding yourself from the scariest of scary movies, our 6th grade selves were right, there’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned slumber party.

Should I get my girls gifts? Of course!

1. Go all out if you can afford it, your friends deserve it! One of my personal go-to online shops for gifts is Etsy; they literally have it all. From personalized coffee mugs to statement jewelry, Etsy makes sure that you have the perfect gift for every personality in your pack!

2. But if you’re balling on a budget, shop like a frugalista! Hobby Lobby is basically exploding with DIY possibilities. Make your girls matching t-shirts, hats, or even bestie bandanas! You can even flashback to those middle school days and make the crew old school friendship bracelets. Target and Walmart also have tons of deals that are sure to suit your sweeties.

Regardless of what you choose to do or what gifts you decide to get your friends, remember the true spirit of Galentine’s Day is to honor the girls who have been constants in your life! Boyfriends come and go, but squads are forever!
