On March 27th, UNT’s Women of Gold hosted “Girl Code” as a collaboration event with the intention of teaching women on campus how to “pave your own lane.”

Women of Gold is an organization that connects the women on UNT’s campus by uplifting, supporting and unifying. They provide a safe space for women to come, talk and grow.

Their purpose goes perfectly with the Girl Code event, which is a college tour for high school and college-aged women. UNT was their second stop, with their first being Paul Quinn College in Dallas.

During the event, they discussed starting your own business, finding your purpose and relationships; all things that women can struggle with while trying to find themselves in college.

The event itself was hosted by Star Ford, and the panel itself was made up of five successful and inspirational ladies; Sabeina Harris, creator of Girl Code, Jennifer Briggs, creator of By Nicole Designs, Jennifer Allen, creator of Just Elope Dallas, Tammy Bowser, creator of Snag My Wedding, and Tiffany Ellis, co-founder of I Am My Daughter’s Keeper.

Throughout the night, all six ladies shared their personal experiences in college and their life after, building relationships and how to get to where you want/need to be.

“My main goal for starting Girl Code is to create a platform for women to come together to have a secret and a sacred place to talk amongst us and get advice because so many times on campus everybody’s gossiping and nothing is a secret and you feel like you can’t really express yourself,” said Sabeina Harris. “Having other women that have been through what you are going through and creating a platform for everybody to be open and ask questions and be able to get advice not only about life and where you are right now in life is important and something I always wanted when I was in college.”

After each question was answered by the panelists, the audience was allowed to ask follow-up questions, which led to a lot of discussion from the girls in attendance.

One of the most important things I took away from it, personally was to never use the word aspiring. It doesn’t matter what you are doing or how long you’ve been doing it. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner, you are still doing it. If you want to see other important advice like that from the event, you can search the tag #girlcodeunt to see all the great quotes from the night!

Next up on their list is Inspire U Fest Conference, which will be at the Study USA. It is an interactive festival that will allow women to come together and discuss becoming your own girl boss. For more information on this event, please go to www.inspireufest.com
