It’s okay to celebrate Trump’s loss while also being concerned of how many progressive policies will actually occur with the Biden administration. Waking up to learn that Joe Biden is the new president-elect brought tears to my eyes, and the thought of taking Trump out of office still makes me giddy. However, I feel anxious with the control of the Senate still up in the air. A Republican led senate would block so many progressive and important pieces of legislation, and it would just make it harder for Biden’s administration to fulfill their promises.
Lastly, after seeing so many American’s claim fraud with this election, it really has highlighted their practical devotion to Trump, despite the countless lies he’s told over the 4 years of his presidency. Without any concrete and real evidence of fraud, and with so many judges throwing out cases being presented, Trump supporters are so quick to jump on the bandwagon of believing this election fraud scam. They act as though mail in and early voting is a new phenomenon, and that somehow, it’s illegal. Early voting and mail in votes have been occurring for quite a long time now, and realistically, Trump just cannot grapple with the notion that he didn’t win – so he wants to put a feeling of mistrust in the government into the American people as his final acts as President.
I am so grateful to know that we will not have another 4 years of Trump. While simply removing him from office will not stamp out the racism and hatred he spread, it certainly is a step in the right direction of removing a leader that allowed, supported, and encouraged such xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, and racist acts that have occured in America in the past few years. Supporting Trump is not just supporting a political party, it is supporting the hate and violence he spread. It is supporting the policies that hurt marginalized groups.
