Although it seems as if all girls are now becoming makeup enthusiasts, that is far from the truth. There is still a big percent of girls out there who aren’t familiar with the makeup realm, and they want to be, but they just don’t seem to know where to start. Now, I am no expert in any way, shape or form, but I have been doing it for a few years now, and i’ve picked up a few tricks here and there, so I’d like to share some of my knowledge to my fellow sisters who are just starting.

Brushes and Beauty Blenders.

First things first, brushes and beauty blenders. I would recommend buying cheap makeup brushes when you start, to help you practice. Elf and Wet n’ Wild have good brushes for our tight budget. If you’d like a bit nicer quality for your money, Morphe brushes has affordable, yet good quality brushes.

Foundation and concealer.

Again, starting off with affordable good quality items is the key. LA Girl Cosmetics has amazing quality foundations and concealers for really affordable prices, as well as Wet n’ Wild and NYX. Although I think NYX is a bit more pricier than LA Girl or Wet n’ Wild, it is not far from our price range. Remember to get them in your color, you don’t want to play around with the colors just yet, stick to buying the one that best matches your skin color.

Next up eyeshadow.

You don’t need to go out and buy an expensive palette right away. Save your money and head to the drugstore instead, or ULTA. They have good small eyeshadow palettes that are pigmented enough and great to start off with. Try Maybelline, NYX or L’Oreal.

This should’ve been first but, BUY/ USE A PRIMER.

It is the base before applying makeup. You want to still take care of you skin, especially when you’re applying makeup. You don’t want to break out or irritate your skin. Again, the drugstore has really good primers for affordable prices. The Maybelline baby skin is an amazing one, one of my personal favorites. NYX Angel Veil primer is also one of my favorites although that one does range a bit pricier than Maybelline. Wet n’ Wild also carries great primers. I’m currently using the Photo Focus Matte primer and I’m loving it.

On a bad day, there is always Mascara.

If you’re just beginning, I would stick to mascara. Drugstore mascaras are the go to, no doubt. If you want to be bold and try lashes right off the bat, then you go right on ahead sis. The beauty supply store has amazing lashes for the cheap, also apps like Wish have packs of 10 for $3 and they’re pretty good too.

With Winged Eyeliner, anything is possible.

If you want to perfect the sharp winged eyeliner, practice is KEY. Everyone struggles in the beginning, buy cheap eyeliners from the drugstore or stores like Forever 21, even. You’ll most likely waste it just practicing so it’s better to save your money in the beginning.

Watch YouTube tutorials.

Everything from natural to bold looks. Try finding someone with your skin tone, that way you can get a sense of how it’d look on you. Warning, you might just get addicted to watching them.

Makeup remover wipes and oils will be your best friend.

Get them. Your skin will thank you. Lastly, just have fun. Makeup shouldn’t feel like a chore, it’s something therapeutic and an art form for everyone to express themselves creatively.
