To the Senior Who Lost the Rest of Their Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

It’s disappointing. We’ve spent years leading up to this one moment. We’ve planned graduation pictures, a party with all of our families, how we are going to decorate our caps. We’ve planned banquets, girls nights, outings with all of our friends. And now we can’t do any of it.

Experiences that you thought you would treasure for the rest of your life were suddenly taken away from you.

But it isn’t the end of the world.

I’ve reflected on the almost three years I have spent at UNT, and I wouldn’t trade it for just eight more weeks. We may have lost what little time we have left, but they can’t take away everything that has already happened.

You are allowed to be sad. You are allowed to be mad. I know that I am both. But at the end of the day, we are still graduating. All our hard work is paying off. We are going to enter the “real world” and start a brand new adventure, and someday, this will just be a memory that you will look back on and say “remember when graduation was cancelled? That was crazy.”

For now, reflect on what you still can do this semester–get good grades, pick-up a hobby, start a side hustle, catch up on all the sleep you’ve missed. Whatever you decide to make of these next few weeks, no matter how weird they may be, you are still graduating. Great things are about to happen, and I promise, whether you walk across the stage or not, your parents will still be proud.
