Fall is approaching, and with it comes cooler weather, pumpkin-flavored foods, and new fashion trends. One of the best parts about fall, though, is the release of new movies that sometimes compete with summer films for the biggest blockbusters. Among the exciting releases are some long-awaited sequels to popular movies that are sure to have audiences flocking to the nearest theater.

It Chapter Two – September 6. Set 27 years after the first film, It Chapter Two sees the return of the evil Pennywise, who continues to terrorize the now-adult members of the Losers Club as they reunite in Derry. Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, this movie stars famous faces such as James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader gathering to put an end to the demonic clown that tormented them as children and has resurfaced to continue his attack on the town.

Zombieland: Double Tap – October 18. Fans of the first Zombieland were thrilled when it was announced that the cult favorite would get a sequel ten years after its initial release. This comedy horror movie brings back Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin as the dysfunctional group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse dealing with new zombies, new survivors, and the antics of their own self-proclaimed family.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil – October 18. Angelina Jolie returns as the fairy Maleficent in this sequel to the 2014 retelling of Sleeping Beauty. In this film, Maleficent’s relationship with Aurora is tested as they face new enemies and new problems in their efforts to protect their land. The first movie allowed fans to see the Disney “villian’s” side of the beloved story, and this installment shows the continuing of her adventure with the human princess she grew to love.

Doctor Sleep – November 8. Another film based on a novel by Stephen King, this movie is the sequel to his 1977 novel The Shining and follows the grown-up Danny Torrance, played by Ewan McGregor, as he meets a little girl with the same powers as him and tries to protect her from those who want to take advantage of those powers. Fans of the novels as well as the film adaptation of The Shining have been looking forward to the release of this chilling thriller.

Frozen 2 – November 22. Disney fans have been anxiously waiting for this release since the first installment in 2013. While not much is known about the plot, this movie will have Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad voicing our favorite characters again and is likely to have some memorable musical numbers that fans will be singing along to for years to come.

Keep track of release dates to make sure you don’t miss out on the next movies in your favorite franchises! And if you haven’t seen any of the first installments for these sequels, prepare for a marathon so you’ll be up to date on these hits.
