LeadHER- Meet Erica Reed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

This semester, Her Campus UNT has a new face on the Executive Board–Erica Reed. Erica, a Senior majoring in Marketing, came forward willing to fill a role that HC had been lacking. After offering her expertise, the exec board knew they had to have her; she was smart, brought a lot of new ideas to the table, and was the type of person that everyone loved once they met her. Here’s your chance to get to know our new Treasurer who is sure to make big things happen this semester!

What inspired you to run for a leadership position at UNT?

Knowing that I could make a bigger impact on the younger women here on campus is what inspired me to run for a leadership position. I want to be someone who makes a difference, someone who stands up and speaks for the overlooked, and someone others can rely on to solve those difficult issues in their best interest.

How has being in Her Campus changed your college experience?

Being in Her Campus has changed my college experience for the better. Since joining, I have gained so many friends, I have been able to have a voice on campus, and I have learned so much about myself that I didn’t know when it comes to my future career, my interests, and my goals. I genuinely enjoy being in Her Campus and I wouldn’t trade it for any other org. What challenges have you faced as a leader, and what did you do to overcome them?

The most common challenge I’ve faced when put into a leadership position would have to be truly connecting with other members. A lot of the times, I believe, when we meet the new person in charge, we think they only care about themselves and they don’t see us as important. My biggest concern as a leader is creating genuine bonds and relationships with the people around me. Once you establish a friendship as foundation, it makes it easier for members to open up and come to you for things.

Who is your biggest influence and why?

One of my biggest influences is Rihanna. She is a true businesswoman, but she is also very down to earth. She has set the standard for diversity and inclusion in the fashion and cosmetic industries, and you can tell she really tries to reach a wide array of consumers through her products.

What advice would you give freshmen year you if you had the chance?

GET INVOLVED. Every one says this to us freshman year, but I didn’t listen. I wish I had because it has been nothing but good to me since.

What is one goal you plan on achieving this year?

One goal I plan to achieve this year is to secure an internship for the summer at company I may one day call my “forever job,” or my “big girl job”.

Do you think it is possible for women to achieve their dreams with competing against like-minded women?

While I believe competition fuels the markets, I think collaboration makes the sale.

What are three words that describe you?

Outgoing, Intuitive, and Goal-oriented.

How would you like to be remembered?

I want people to remember me as a woman who was very passionate about her dreams and someone was always willing to be there for others. I want others to see me as a woman who knew what she wanted in life, and knew she wouldn’t let anyone get in the way of accomplishing them.

What in your life has brought or given you the greatest fulfillment?

Becoming my own person. Finding out who I am and what I want in life has given me a fulfillment hat nothing else could.
