Katie Cayson is an ADPi Finance Vice President, Fashion Marketing major, aspiring designer, and a young lady filled with wanderlust. I think it’s safe to say she’s being pulled in a lot of directions; so where’s she heading next?

What does UNT mean to you? UNT has built my self-confidence and blessed me with some amazing friends and for that I am forever grateful.

What has been your best college experience so far and what’s the greatest lesson college has taught you so far? Joining ADPi was my best college experience because of the confidence it built in me to be a leader. Not everyone is going to like you, and that’s okay. You have to self-reflect and live the life that’s best for you.

How do you think Going Greek has affected your college experience? It has allowed me to branch out and find my niche at UNT. College is scary and it created a smooth transition for me.

How did it feel to changing your major later in college? And, do you feel like you’ve finally found the right one? It was definitely really hard to change my major midway through because it meant delaying graduation a semester which is time and money I didn’t want to spend. I had the realization that I don’t want to be a pencil pusher, I want to work hard and be happy with what I’m doing (regardless of whether or not I’m making a lot of money) so changing my major was necessary for my emotional, academic, and psychological health.

How does it feel to be a senior? So weird. Every time I think about graduation I just think of a SpongeBob episode: WHAT I LEARNED IN BOATING SCHOOL IS…

After graduation plans? I have kind of have unique plans compared to my peers. I have a wanderlust that won’t be satisfied by family vacations every summer. I plan on moving to Seattle to start my travels. I don’t have plans to find a job related to my career right away. I want to focus on my need to experience new things before I settle down. I plan on pursuing fashion design after college. While I focused more on the business aspect of fashion in my time here in college, I want to pursue my more creative side.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years I hope to be working as a buyer, visual merchandiser, or to be growing my own line as a free-lance designer. I have a lot of work to do between now and then but I am so excited to make my mark in the fashion world.

What’s your biggest fashion inspiration? My biggest fashion inspiration would have to be the women in the fashion design and fashion merchandising program. They are innovative and aren’t afraid to take risks. I think Denton has a really unique culture that allows us to dress how we want and I think people should take more advantage of that. My favorite designer would have to be Kate Spade. She’s a fellow sorority girl and has been able to make simple fashion into something so cute and feminine.

What’s your favorite fashion item? My guilty pleasure would have to be shopping. No matter how broke I am I’m always scrolling through stores online.

What’s your biggest life inspiration?  My biggest life inspiration are my parents. I know it cliché but they were able to rise up and be first generation college students in our families. They work so incredibly hard to provide for me and I hope to do the same for them when they are no longer working.
