Turning your everyday routine into something you actually look forward to
There’s something about starting a new semester that feels like a reset. It’s a chance to try something new, set new goals, and switch up your routine. But starting fresh doesn’t mean you have to completely change your life. It means finding little ways to make your everyday life more enjoyable.Â
One of the easiest ways to romanticize your semester is to create a vision board. Start by creating a Pinterest board for your ideal semester. Fill it with pictures, quotes, outfits, places, goals, and anything that represents the semester you want to have. You can keep it on Pinterest for quick access or print it out and put it somewhere you’ll see it every day. Having a visual reminder of what you’re working toward can help keep you motivated throughout the semester.Â
Next, create a morning routine that works for you. The key is to create a routine that feels manageable and easy to follow. You don’t need a two-hour morning routine to start your day right. The goal isn’t to have the perfect morning routine, but one that makes you enjoy your mornings. It could be as simple as making your bed, doing your skincare, grabbing a coffee, or just giving yourself a few extra minutes before heading out. The point is to give yourself time to start the day instead of immediately rushing out the door.Â
Once you’ve given yourself time to start the day, take some extra time to get ready for class. Getting ready for class can be one of the easiest ways to romanticize your day. There’s something about putting on an outfit that you love that can instantly make you feel more confident. Look good, feel good, right? You’d be surprised how much a little effort can change your mood. Whether it’s putting on an outfit you love, doing your hair, or putting on your favorite perfume, do whatever makes you feel good. Even on days when you don’t feel like getting ready, putting a little effort into your appearance can make you feel more put together. Because sometimes, looking good really does make you feel good.Â
Another great way to romanticize your semester is by giving your current calendar a makeover. I personally use Google Calendar, where I’ve color coded everything and organized my schedule into different sections for school, work, and extracurriculars. Choose a color scheme that you like and assign a different color to each category. Having everything organized and visually appealing can make your schedule easier to look at and less overwhelming to keep up with. The best part is that you can customize it to whatever works best for you. You can make it as simple or as detailed as you want. You can also add important dates, assignments, exams, and events, so everything you need to remember is in one place. Plus, if you’re going to be looking at your calendar every day, you might as well make it cute!Â
The same goes for your school supplies. Adding a little personality to them can make classes feel more fun. They don’t have to be boring just because they’re for school. Pick out notebooks, folders, pens, or highlighters that you think are cute. It might seem small, but having school supplies you love can make you feel more motivated to use them. Don’t be afraid to get a little creative with it and pick things that show off your personality. Those little touches can make your school setup feel more enjoyable.Â
Your study environment matters just as much as your school supplies. Sometimes, being in the house makes it way too easy to get comfortable and distracted. Try switching things up by studying at the campus library, or at a local coffee shop. A change of scenery can help you stay focused and make studying feel a little less boring. Plus, there’s something about getting out of the house and actually having to go somewhere that can make you feel more motivated to actually get your work done. To complete the vibe, make a playlist specifically for studying that you can put on whenever you need to lock in. And of course, don’t leave the house without your headphones.Â
Lastly, the number one thing I do to romanticize my semester is taking inspiration from shows and movies. I’m not saying you have to completely copy a character’s life, but taking a little inspiration never hurts. Think Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. She made school look glamorous. From her outfits to her study sessions, she somehow made going to class and studying look fun. That’s exactly the kind of energy you want to bring into your own semester. Â
Romanticizing your semester isn’t about making every single day perfect. It’s about finding little things that make you excited to get up, go to class, and enjoy your everyday routine. You deserve to enjoy the little moments, even during a busy semester. At the end of the day, your semester is what you make of it, so you might as well make it something you’ll actually enjoy!Â
