We all love a good rom-com or television series we can’t stop binge watching. We get sucked into their world, and find ourselves wanting to be a character of our own. Though there are numerous female characters who fulfill every aspect of a powerful, unearthly woman that every girl hopes to mimic—here is a list of some of my personal fictional female powerhouses.

Olivia Pope (Scandal)

Olivia Pope plays as a white house PR crisis manager/lawyer and portrays a woman that can never be knocked down. The creation of her character’s persona was inspired by real life American crisis manager, lawyer, author, and television producer, Judy A. Smith who is known as the founder, president, and CEO of the crisis management firm Smith & Company. Thus Olivia Pope embodies a woman who relentlessly uses her skills of fixing problems. She bravely makes sacrifices of her own to serve a bigger cause making her one of the selfless boss women who we should all definitely take notes from.

Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)

The infamous Blair Waldorf has suffered through what we’ve all lived through. Even when she’s endured heartbreak after heartbreak along with the betrayal of those she loved, she managed to come out the other side. We can all relate to her state of immobility, those days when we can’t seem to find the courage to get out of bed, but Blair is a reminder that we can indeed make it through the worst and come back even stronger, and with class.

Hermione Granger (Harry Potter Series)

From the classic UK movie phenomenons, Hermione Granger has the perfect balance of wit and brilliance to make the greatest best friend. Even though she looks out for herself, there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do to get her friends out of harms ways. Her caring heart is something we should all aspire to carry with us. With a sharp tongue and uncanny abilities, we could whisk up our own kind of magic.

Kat Stratford (1o Things I Hate About You)

One of the most iconic rom-coms breeds a woman of strength. Kat Stratford sends a message that it’s okay to embrace your uniqueness despite what other people’s perspective may be. Though she fell for Patrick (who had his own resentments), she maintained her stubborn attitude and stayed true to who she was, which resulted in him falling even harder for her. Kat reminds me to not change who I am to please the crowd, and that should resonate with every woman who questions—fears—her true identity.

Starr Carter (The Hate U Give)

A recent film that came out this year displays a dominant girl who faces the stones society’s thrown at her. While battling society’s worst flaws—racism, discrimination, police brutality—Starr Carter manages to find the bravery to be a leader. Despite her fears and adolescence, she holds her head high and fights for what’s right. The voice of the voiceless and we should follow in her footsteps to speak up for what we believe in.
