Don’t Neglect Your Phone During Spring Cleaning!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

The first day of spring was a few days ago, and it is time to spring clean our butts off. Get rid of the clothes we don’t wear anymore, deep clean our bathrooms and reorganize our rooms. During our spring cleaning marathon, we tend to neglect a big part of our lives: our phones. With our cell phones being a focal point of our lives nowadays, we have to make sure that we clean out our phones as well!

There are few things that anyone can do to “clean out” their phone!

1. Declutter your email inbox! This could be the longest step of this whole process if you’re anything like me and let all of the emails in your personal email just pile up. For the love of all things clean, unsubscribe from retail store emails. They are literally the root of all evil. Divide it up into sections, and even use the search bar to quickly delete emails from the same company! It’s time to clear our those thousands of emails!

2. Delete apps that you don’t use anymore. There is no reason that you should apps on your phone that you haven’t used in the last six months. They are just taking up space in your phone that can be used for more pictures or quite frankly other apps that you would actually use regularly. Apple has feature under ‘iPhone Storage’ that will get rid of your unused apps for you!

3. Clear your badges. Those little red bubbles at the top of your apps that are constantly daunting you. I find them annoying, but just like my thousands of emails, I let them pile up. Do your best to just go through those apps and find out how to make them go away. Sometimes, it is simply just clicking on the app, and they will go away!

4. Delete old message threads. Believe it or not, old message threads tend to take up a lot of space on your phone! Stop holding on to old message threads you will never read again and free up some space on your phone!

5. Clear old notifications in the notification center. This is probably the easiest step. I’m sure most people just delete them as they come, but for those you that don’t, get rid of them. The feeling of a cleared notification is satisfying! Usually, you can just swipe different categories, and you can clear them all at once.

6. Re-organize your apps. After all this tedious cleaning of your phone, you might as well spice it up and re-organize your apps in a way that better suits you. Personally, I try to put the apps that I use the most closer to the bottom of the screen because I have such a large phone. Having them at the bottom makes them easier for me to reach. If that’s not your thing, organize all of your apps by folders or even by color!

When thinking of spring cleaning, our phones usually don’t come to mind because they are basically apart of us now. Take the time this spring to really organize and “clean out” your phone. It usually doesn’t take that long and the satisfaction you feel afterwards is unmatched.
