People keep saying

You are kind, you are over-trusting, you are soft

As if these are bad qualities to have,

These words that exude affection and goodness

are said with such poison behind them that you want to recoil at the very idea.

The world tells you that people are harsh

and you should be too if you want to succeed.

Be cruel, be strong

Be the rock that ships crash against and only you are left.

I agree

Be a rock, the one that shields those who need it from harm

and acts as a point for others to see the horizon.

Be steadfast in your principles

and even more so in your actions.

If people ask you why, tell them

Goodness is not innate.

I have suffered in ways that no one else should have to

and I am kind so that you know how to be kind as well.

We are not meant to live only working for our benefit,

Humans thrive surrounded by love and tenderness.

So I will be soft for others to find comfort in,

I will be trusting so no one will be afraid to ask for help,

and I will be kind because no one should be without it
