Nowadays, YouTube has as much drama as a reality TV show! Between makeup palettes with hair and mold in them, or old racist videos, it seems like it’s hard to find content to watch without supporting someone who you shouldn’t. Here are five youtubers that never fail to make me laugh when I’m down, and don’t have controversy surrounding them.

1. Jenna Marbles

One of the YouTube OG’s, Jenna Mourey has been creating YouTube content since 2006, just one year after the website’s launch. Her channel has garnered over 20 million subscribers and 3.3 billion views, and is the 86th most subscribed channel on the website. Her content when she began was more scripted comedy and very opinionated “rant”-style, but in the last few years, her content has become freer (and weirder) as she got more outside of her box. Her dogs, Marbles, Peach, Kermit, and Bunny, are often are the stars of the videos. She also does cooking videos fairly frequently, as she and her boyfriend are both vegan and her boyfriend has Celiac disease.

2. Brandon Farris

When my sister first discovered Brandon Farris’ channel, we watched his videos for a week straight, laughing until we cried. Farris’ channel is family-friendly and often does bizarre, fast-paced cooking or experimenting videos that end disastrously. He often makes videos trying snacks from other countries or very spicy foods. His girlfriend Gloria and 6-year-old daughter Autumn often feature in his videos as well. He only gained his YouTube following in the last year and half, after becoming homeless due to medical bills, and credits everything he has now to his YouTube success.3. Markiplier

Mark Fischbach began his YouTube career in 2012 after dropping out of the University of Cincinnati where he was studying biomedical engineering. His channel primarily consists of gaming videos, especially survival-horror games. His channel has 12 billion views and 24.7 million subscribers. Mark often does charity live-streams, which have raised money for various charities like Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, the Trevor Project, and the Best Friends Animal Society. To date, he and his viewers have raised over $3 million for charity. 4. Em Ford

29-year-old Em Ford started her YouTube channel in June 2014, as a safe place to practice her photography and share her beauty skills with the world. After developing adult acne, Ford began sharing unedited photos and videos of herself, which led to heavy bullying. An amateur filmmaker, Ford went on to make a short film called “You Look Disgusting,” about beauty and social media’s harsh comments about her. The film has over 32 million views to date, and landed her interviews on BBC as well as brand deals with labels like Kylie Jenner, L’Oréal and Charlotte Tilbury. Ford was the first person that I was exposed to as a teenager with severe acne who taught me how to properly apply makeup for full acne coverage, which launched me into my passion for makeup.

5. The Try Guys

Originally from Buzzfeed, the Try Guys is a comedy channel in which the four stars, Keith Habersberger, Ned Fulmer, Zach Kornfeld, and Eugene Lee Yang, try things they’ve never tried before. The group left Buzzfeed and created their own LLC in order to gain more creative freedom. The group has written a book together about the experience and also went on a worldwide tour performing a show they’d written themselves. They’ve been nominated and won several Streamy Awards. Their content is professionally done, but often shows behind-the-scenes goofs and commentary that makes the cast and crew very relatable.
