4 Things I am Most Looking Forward to at the State Fair of Texas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

It’s that time of year again for the State Fair of Texas running from September 27, 2019 to October 20, 2019. I enjoy the fair every year, and I usually go at least two times to get the full experience. This year is no different; I am already planning out my dates to attend. I wanted to share 4 things that I am most excited about trying this year. I hope many find them intriguing and try them as well.

1. Fletcher’s Corny Dog

Arguably the best corn dog of all time. There is no State Fair without the Fletcher’s corny dog. It is so crispy on the outside. That classic crunch paired with mustard and ketchup makes my heart smile.

2. Taking a Photo with Big Tex

Big Tex is a big deal. Think of him as the mascot of Texas; in fact he is the “Official greeter and Icon of the State Fair of Texas,” according to bigtex.com. He stands a whopping 55 feet tall and in true Texas fashion is dressed as a cowboy courtesy of Dickeys. Capturing a photo with Big Tex is the perfect souvenir from the fair and I have never gotten a photo with him. This year I am determined to get my souvenir.

3. Riding the Texas Star Ferris Wheel

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the beloved Ferris Wheel at the State Fair. This ain’t your typical ferris wheel; this is the largest ferris wheel in Texas, sitting 212 feet high with an incredible view of Dallas. I have to say this is one of the most coveted rides at the Texas State Fair. The line for this ride is consistently long so long that I pass on it every year. This year I am determined to wait and ride it for the first time.

4. Deep Fried Cheesecake

This is by far my favorite treat at the State Fair. I am a cheesecake lover, but this dessert fuels my addiction. This cheesecake is whipped to perfection then wrapped in some sort of wonton paper (I’m assuming), deep fried, and served with powdered sugar. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside gooey goodness. I look forward to it every year.

I am currently a Junior at North Texas studying Fashion Merchandising and Journalism. I love keeping up with the latest fashion and beauty trends.
