College is difficult, especially as a broke and struggling freshman or sophomore. Classes can have nearly 150 or so people, with one professor and an apathetic TA. Professor office hours can be hard to work into a schedule or sometimes assignments are due at midnight and the last problem is impossible. Services like Chegg can be great, but not as much as having someone who has recently studied the material help you. However, UNL has a wonderful solution to this delima: Study Stops!

Study Stops are locations that operate 7pm-10pm weeknights with upperclassmen who know their stuff. The main two locations that operate Monday night through Thursday night are the Engineering Study Stop located in the Engineering library in Nebraska Hall and the first-year and transition program study stop located near the Dunkin Donuts in the Learning Commons.

As I have friends at both locations, I can say they are well handled. The Learning Commons study stop is more geared towards liberal arts classes, though they do handle almost all intro classes. The engineering study stop is the ultimate resource for STEM students. They help with intro chemistry, calculus, and physics courses. The students who work there are a lot of help and, since the first couple years of engineering are pretty similar, practically everyone can help you.

The perk of all of this? It is absolutely free! These student tutors are available to assist most underclassmen at these locations for no cost. With how few people utilize this resource, the tutoring is close to personal. There are regulars at the engineering study stop who get nearly the whole time one-on-one with a tutor, unless it’s the night before a chemistry exam. Come drop by for free help and free snacks. P.S., the Learning Commons study stop offers free Dunkin Donuts donuts. Catch me at the engineering study stop every Tuesday and Wednesday evening working with my friend on OChem homework.
