Spring Trend Report

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

Sure it’s only January, but you have to start looking forward to spring fashion sometime! And what better way to kill those winter blues than by getting your wardrobe ready for spring?

On the runway during New York Fashion Week, bright colors as well as black and white made a huge debut, proving themselves to be some of the biggest trends this spring.  And lucky for us, we can find cute black and white staples right inside of our own closets or at any of our favorite stores! The perfect black and white outfit can be sleek enough to wear to class and work but can carry itself over to a date night (just add heels, and viola!).  If you’re not a fan of the all black and white but want to look great on a date, the runways also verified that peekaboo pieces are totally in, so try a dress with cutouts or a sheer top.  The great thing about the peekaboo trend is that women with any body shape can pull off some form of it.  Also ladies, it looks like that adorable leather peplum top you bought for this winter will be able to make a debut in your spring wardrobe as well!  Emerald was named the “it color” of 2013, so make sure to have your go-to emerald top or pants on hand at all times.

When you’re looking for your accessories, the word for this spring is “statement”.  Go out of your comfort zone with a pair of statement sunglasses or spruce up your black and white outfit with a bright or pastel colored handbag.  Keep an eye out for the perfect chunky necklace to add to your jewelry collection; you’ll be glad you bought it when you throw on an outfit and think, “I’m just missing one thing…”  For the rest of your jewelry, keep it simple and mix and match your favorite gold and silver rings and bracelets.  When it comes to every girl’s favorite fashion item-shoes-get excited because you don’t have to worry about tired feet at the end of a long night down town; fill your shoe shelf with plenty of flats and low heels, they took over the runways for spring.  If you want extra points, pick up a pair of gladiator sandals!
