Sorry Hair, You’ve Been Chopped

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

I’m going to be honest; I would have never had the courage to cut my hair above my shoulders if Taylor Swift hadn’t done it first in 2014.

I had the intention to chop my hair for a few weeks before it actually happened, and I was so excited for the change. The last time my hair was even close to being to my shoulders was in the fifth grade, and it wasn’t my choice. My mom went behind my back and told the hairstylist to chop it all off (still love you, Mom). When she was done, the lady asked me if I wanted it any shorter and I replied, with tears in my eyes, “I actually wanted it longer.” Awkwardness ensued and I cried the whole way home.

This time, however, I got it chopped even shorter and I didn’t shed one tear. It was, however, a big change that took some getting used to. Here are some things I love about my new short hair, and why you may want to consider going for a new look!

1: Your hair will be healthier

The first thing I noticed is how much my hair seems sleeker and less frizzy at the ends.

2: You’ll use less hair products

Another great thing about my new short hair is I use less shampoo and conditioner, and it takes a significantly shorter amount of time to wash it in the shower.

3: It’s less heavy

On the hot summer days in August, it was great to not be weighed down by my long hair, which usually caused me to heat up even more.

4: It’s easier to style

It now takes me maybe 5 minutes to straighten my hair, and it used to take me at least 15 for it to look somewhat presentable. Thankfully it fits in a ponytail, so that’s been my go-to look for a while!
