Like the Power Rangers? Then ‘Go Go’ See the Movie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

Growing up my big brother had a lot of influence in my life. One thing in particular where his influence reigned supreme was in my taste in television shows and movies. That being said, while most girls my age were watching Disney channel, I was watching Pokémon, Digimon and of course, the Power Rangers. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie holds a special place in my heart, so when I first saw the trailer for the newly released Power Rangers movie, I had high expectations.

Now if you must know one thing about the Power Rangers it’s that the movies and series tend to be a tad cheesy. The characters are so lovable and the each episode/ movie is entertaining enough to where the cheesiness for me, is ignorable. As I bought my tickets for a showing of the new movie I silently prayed that the movie would just be cheesy, but not entirely suck.

Watching the movie, I was so pleasantly surprised at what I saw. The graphics were incredible, the acting was actually pretty decent and the character development was spot on. My only concern about the movie was that I felt as though It needed some more action time of the rangers doing what they do best: kick butt. There may have been a couple plot holes too… -cough- megazord formation- cough-. Other than that, I loved the fact that this was a movie made for the old fans like myself. It wasn’t directly catered to little kids, what it did instead was tell the origin tale of the rangers in a way that old fans can enjoy and reminisce about why the Power Rangers are so awesome to begin with. For the newer, younger fans, it creates the foundation of a new love of heroes, it introduces a new generation to characters that have been loved by many before and thus encourages the new fans to go back and re-watch older films so that they can continue to see the rangers that they now are familiar with. So this weekend embrace your inner 90’s kid and go see a movie that brings back all the good feels of childhood.
