Life in Color – The Aftermath

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

Life in Color is an annual event that comes to Lincoln almost every year. If you’re one for large crowds, mosh pits and getting a little too cozy with some of the people around you, this event is definitely one that you won’t want to miss out on.  Except there were a couple things that I wish I knew before attending that could be helpful for someone whose thinking of going next year.

Be prepared to get soaked!

You hear stories of how much paint people get covered in the year before but going to the event, I didn’t really know what to expect and did not prepare for the worst. Showering after the event is pretty interesting too since you notice paint in places you’d never expect it’d be. I still found pink when cleaning out my ears a week after the event!

Wear something you don’t mind getting paint all over

If you’re planning on being right at the front, you definitely won’t look as good going to the event compared to when you’re leaving. The bright neon yellow shirt that I wore transformed into a gross dark yellow by the time the event was over. I also didn’t expect my sneakers to get as dirty as they did… I don’t think my Nike’s will ever look the same. But then again the paint splatter look could be cute. My best advice when picking an outfit for next year would be to make a trip to target and finds some plain shirts to cut up with your friends and wear a pair of your old gym shorts. Top it off with some good face paint (don’t expect it to last the whole night) or a cute headband. Definitely don’t forget eyewear since it stings when you get too much paint in your eye.

It really it a good time

The main thing I was worried about was if I was actually going to have fun at the event. I’ve asked people who’ve attended last year and most of the stories I heard were about people who were bored and didn’t enjoy the paint.  The event is what you make of it so if you enjoy the music and are looking to have a memorable night, I’m sure you’re going to have a night to remember! Just remember the walk home is miserable. It’s in the beginning of Feburary, you’re not wearing appropriate clothing for negative degrees weather and there’s snow on the ground. Hopefully you won’t make the same mistake I did and make sure you find a ride after the event!
