Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

I was told over and over before I came to college that “distance sucks” and that it would be near to impossible to make a relationship work with that many miles in between. Well, I am here to tell you that does not have to be the case. In fact, distance has made my relationship even stronger than it was before, and here are four ways how:

The “big fights” just aren’t so big anymore

  – Being apart has really brought to light just how valuable our relationship is, and that all the little things that we bicker over just really are not that important in the long run.

You have your own “things”

 – Going to different colleges, we are each able to be involved in our own activities, and it is just that much more exciting to be able to call each other and talk about what we did that week. We are both involved in so much more, and having our own college experiences that we can then share with each other is so important.

Communication is so much stronger

 – I have noticed that there are just less little miscommunications between us. Communication is key in a strong relationship, and we get better and better every day now.

You value the time that you are able to spend together

 – Now, every time that I am able to come home for a weekend or he is able to come here, the time we spend together is just so much more valuable. There is less bickering and issues, and just more love and happiness. ❤️
