What made you chose UNL?

I have always been a HUGE Husker fan! I love attending a big university beause I hae been abel to meet so many people. UNL is bthe perfect distance away from home, and I am always ale to run home and spend time with family!

How long have you been dancing for?

I have been dancing since I was 2 years old! Dance has always been my passion and a huge part of my life. Both of my sisters have danced their entire lives as well, so dance has been a big part of the Wood Family!

What made you interested in dancing?

When I was younger, I always danced around the house and loved going to dance class. I also loved being able to dress up for my recitals and competitions growing up! I love music and being able to express myself through dance!

Did you dance in high school?

I danced on the Millard North Varsity Dance Team throughout my years in high school. I loved being able to be a part of such a fun, dedicated, hardworking team. We attending UDA Nationals in Orlando each year, and our team was named 4th in the nation! I became very close with my teammates and loved spending so much time with them.

What made want to try out for the Scarlets?

I wanted to tryout for the Scarlets Dance Team for a number of reasons! Of course because I absolutely love dancing and the Huskers I also knew what a privilege it would be to be able to represent the university and cheer on the Husker Athletic teams! I knew how hard working and passionate the girls are on the team, and wanted to be able to be apart of such an amazing group of girls!

What has this experience been like for you?

Being on the Scarlets Dance Team has been such an incredible experience! I’ve learned so much and made great friendships. It’s been such a great opportunity to be able to cheer on the football and basketball teams and be a part of the action!

What is the hardest part about being on the team?

I have had so much fun being a member of the team. The only thing I had to get used to was waking up so early for the morning practices! I have not always been an early riser, but we work hard and get a lot done during each morning practice to prepare for each performance.

What is the greatest part?

One of my favorite parts about being a Scarlet is being able to interact with Husker fans..especially the young kids. I love meeting the little girls dressed in Husker Cheer dresses with poms. I never realized how much they really look up to the cheer and dance girls. It warms my heart to talk to them and let them shake my poms! Interacting with the kids is a really neat experience that I will always absolutely love. I also have loved being able to work with and get close with such an awesome group of girls. They are all driven, selfless, passionate individuals who each play a paramount role on the team, and I am very thankful that Scarlets has brought us all together!

What are practices like?

Scarlets practice in the mornings usually 3-4 times a week, but that can vary! We work on our dances for the games, technique, sidelines, and more. Everyone works hard to make sure we can perform to the best of our ability at each game!

What are the games like?

The games are so much fun! We cheer on the teams and pump up the crowd. It’s such an amazing, up-close experience to be out on the football field and on the sidelines of the basketball games!

Did you ever imagine yourself dancing in college?

I knew I wanted to continue to dance in college for reasons. Dancing has always been my passion, and I knew being a part of the Scarlets would be a rewarding, incredible experience and privilege! I’m so very thankful to be a part of it.

Will you continue next year?

Tryouts for cheer and dance are soon after the Spring Game. I plan to tryout again for the 2015-2016 season I will be attending UNL until I receive my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I am also very involved with my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, and a member of a Business Fraternity.
