Campus Celebrity: Courtyards Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

Who has been coordinating these delicious Courtyard cookouts, fun photo shoots with Lil’ Red, and other welcoming activities you ask? The new Resident Assistants for 2014-2015!

Kate Johnson is our first celebrity of the year! We were excited to have her share a few details about the plans she has in store for the Courtyards community this year, but first, let’s get to know Kate a little bit better…

About Kate:

Kate is a sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska and came to UNL to study music! Very interesting.

Kate’s major is Music for Vocal Performance emphasizing in Opera and many more genres of music. Her goal is to travel to Europe to sing her heart out! We wish you good luck in your aspiring dreams, Kate!

What is to be expected of the Courtyards:

Kate also gave us an insight on what is to be expected from her as an R.A. (Resident Assistant).

“We’ll do some building wide events like a fun scary black and white movie in the fall, projected up on the side of the building which is something I’ll be leading, so get your blankets out and watch something fun and eat some snacks.”

Kate also mentioned having some yoga sessions outside of the courtyards as a floor event this year, as well as go as a floor to UNL’s new rock climbing wall at the Outdoor Adventure Center. Kate is very motivated to ensuring a successful and fun time for the students living at the Courtyards.

Kate’s interest in becoming an R.A. for the Courtyards:

·      Make connections: It’s a great way of getting to know others.

·      Make others feel welcomed: Courtyards should feel like it’s own community.

·      Mentorship position: Be a support system for other peers and help other get involved.

“The Courtyards is a really interesting and cool place because of the nature of the apartment style and also it’s very independent and everyone is always doing their own thing.”

Keep on doing what you are doing. We can’t to see the Courtyards students hanging out at these awesome future events!
