Boots & Cats members Anna Schoettger, Jasmine Froehlich, and Kathryn Pauley

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with three members of the popular female acapella group Boots & Cats. Jasmine Froehlich, Anna Schoettger, and Kathryn Pauley share what it’s like to be a member of this amazingly talented group.

HC: What are your majors?

Anna: Music, Pre-Dental

Jasmine:  Pre-Nursing

Kathryn: Art and Advertising

HC: What does being a member of Boots & Cats entail?

All: We have rehearsals twice a week for a total of four hours, we also have performance commitments with gigs every two weeks on average.  There are also different positions within the group like secretary, social chair, marketing, music director, and president.

HC: When and why did you decide to try out?

Anna: We got an invitation to come and sing for the founding members when I was a freshman (2011), it was really chill and they had already had members picked out, they just wanted to see if we could really sing.

Kathryn: One of the NSE leaders told me that she and her friend wanted to start an acapella group so I messaged her on Facebook to see if this was a serious thing.

Jasmine:  I had seen them perform a couple times, thought they were really good, and knew a few of the girls in it.  I knew I would have a blast and everyone is extremely talented.

HC: What’s involved in the audition process?

All:  In the first round you sing America the Beautiful, do a couple lines of cite reading, and do some rhythm counting.  For callbacks you prepare your own song and sing America the Beautiful with some members in the group to see how well they mix together.

HC: What’s it like being a member a Boots & Cats?

All:  We’re all super goofy and super close and like to make cat references.  Being a member is a time commitment but every girl loves it and loves being around each other.  It’s cool because we meet people from all over campus who we wouldn’t normally get a chance to know.  Its fun to perform at random events and a great way to start conversation.

HC: What else are you involved in on campus?

(Anna, Jasmine, and Kathryn are also members of Chi Omega sorority.)

Anna: I’m involved in some singing competitions, an opera program, and Pre-Dent club.

Kathryn: I’m the vice president of Dance Marathon and also work.

Jasmine:  I’m involved in Navigators, Greek side, and belong to a bible study.

HC: What do you plan on doing after graduation?

Anna: Dental school and probably some other schooling after that.

Kathryn: I would like to work for an ad agency or a non-profit, not in Lincoln.

Jasmine: I’ll be going to nursing school.

HC: Describe Boots & Cats in three words.

All: Quirky. Loud. Meow.
