Olympian Comes to Union

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Union chapter.

This coming spring term, Union College will welcome Freshman Tucker West to the Dutchmen community. West, at the age of eighteen, was the youngest ever male to qualify for the United States Men’s Luge Team this past winter for the Sochi 2014 Olympics. West attended the National Sports Academy High in Lake Placid, New York, but his home is in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

West was one of three lugers to represent the United States in the men’s singles in luge in Sochi. West came in 22nd with a time of 3.31.217 after his fourth and final run. After West had completed two runs the Today Show did a story on him. Besides mentioning the wooden luge track that his father had made West after they had watched the Salt Lake City games, West’s father also had special message for the audience. Brett West told the world that his son was “very single, and he’s a little shy, so you’ll have to reach out to him.” Once the message had aired the hashtag #TeamTucker went viral. Tucker West later told TODAY.com the he was looking for a nice girl. “I like fun, outgoing, nice people. There’s not really a set thing. If I like them, I like them,” he continued to say. So girls at Union keep in mind that a very eligible Olympian will be on campus starting in the spring.
