5 Ways to Stay Healthy all Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Union chapter.
  1. Find a workout buddy who will make sure you reach your goals.
  • Adding competition to your workouts is proven to help burn calories. Also, when you have someone to contest against, it can help with your motivation level!
  • When you’re feeling drowsy, your workout buddy can help inspire you to get up and work out!

    2. Download the Nike+ Running App

  • This app has done wonders to my daily exercising. It sustains all of the information regarding my runs: my average mile pace, the distance I run, and how many calories I burn.
  • It manages all of your runs as well as your best times! Talk about one amazing running app… This helped inspire me to run everyday this summer, which led to me regaining stamina to run close to ten miles! I can’t wait to continue to use it throughout the school year.

     3. Set guidelines for your eating habits.

  • This part of staying healthy is by far the hardest. The food options provided in college range from pizza, pasta, cheeseburgers, hot dogs to salads, soups, and organic options. Having the willpower to stop yourself from either eating a plate full of pasta or munching down late night goodies is tremendously hard. I mean who doesn’t love carbs?! And by all means I am not saying don’t eat pasta; however, just learn how to proportionate your meals. By setting aside room for salads or healthier options, it will help you stay healthy all year.

      4. Try and stay away from processed foods!

  • Whole Foods, an all-natural grocery store, just opened up in Albany, which has led to staying away from processed foods much easier!  I have already found myself over there countless times ordering salads or smoothies that honestly taste so delicious!  If you don’t have transportation, there’s always the organic option of O3 on campus, which can do the trick! For myself, I have noticed how eating unprocessed natural food has had an overall effect on not only my body but also my energy level. The organic option is always my go-to and will definitely help you stay healthy all year!

      5. Join a workout class!

  • Union offers an array of fitness classes located in the gym. Some favorites include cycling, yoga, and zumba, but the list is endless!
  • Another option is exploring the surrounding area! There are fitness workspaces nearby campus like hot yoga studios that help complete a happy, healthy year! So why not get out there and try out something new?
