5 Valentine’s Day Date Ideas on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Union chapter.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and I’m sure many of you are thinking about how to make this special day perfect. Being a college student means being a college student budget, which can make Valentine’s season stressful with thinking about what to do without spending too much cash. Well here are some ideas to make your Valentine’s Day plans less stressful, and just as amazing.

            1. Dinner at More Perecca’s!

Down on Jay Street is a lovely Italian restaurant with amazing food. More Perecca’s created a special menu on Valentine’s Day (and all through Valentine’s weekend in case you don’t have time until then). This menu is a five-course menu that is just $60 for the two of you! You will receive an appetizer, a salad, an entrée, dessert, and a complimentary glass of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. This menu sounds more than appetizing, and will guarantee a great night.

            2. Dinner and a Movie on Campus!

Making dinner together can be so relaxing, romantic and a lot of fun! Cook your favorite dish together in a Minerva, and sit down at the table and enjoy each other’s company. After dinner, snuggle up under a blanket and watch a movie together that neither of you have seen, or one that you have seen and both love! For dessert you could even bake those delicious tollhouse cookies with the hearts in the middle.

3. Bake Desserts (or Order Them)!

Most people believe that the best Valentine’s gifts should include jewelry. I would have to say that the way to win anyone over on Valentine’s Day is dessert. Bake some brownies or cupcakes and add some pink frosting. Get your significant other a box of chocolate (or any type of candy) and a card! You can even order desserts from dining services! Get some chocolate covered strawberries, a cookie cake, or decorated cupcakes. You can pay with declining balance, too! This will make anyone’s day brighter and delicious.

4. Go see a movie!

Seeing a movie in theaters makes the experience a lot more exciting. Getting some popcorn, candy, and a soda and watching a romantic movie or even a comedy will be sure to make this day wonderful. The local theaters even offer some student discounts. An even cheaper way to do this would be to go to Reamer Auditorium and watch the movie that is being shown. Grab some candy from the bookstore and it’ll complete the night!

5. Write them a personal card!

Nothing speaks louder than words from the heart. Write your significant other a card telling them how much they mean to you. Tell them how wonderful it is to spend Valentine’s Day with them! Get some dinner together and just spend quality time together and relax.  It will mean a lot to them, and relaxing is something that college students don’t get a lot of.
