Sometimes it’s hard finding things to do in Cedar Falls, especially when it comes to dates. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and it’s time to try and decide what to do with that special someone. You could do the whole dinner and a movie deal, but that’s sooo boring. Time to spice things up, and luckily, I know how to do just that. Here are some date ideas for anyone looking to have a fun, romantic, and memorable February 14th!
Teddy Bear Lovin’ — $10/bear (Crossroads Mall, Waterloo, IA)
No, we’re not cool enough to have a Build-a-Bear Workshop in our area, but we do have the next best thing— Teddy Bear Connection! You and your boy can go create your own stuffed animals for each other. He’ll pretend like he doesn’t want to, but there’s really nothing he’d love more than cuddling with a cute little teddy bear made especially for him when he’s not cuddling with, trust me. You can even make them look like each other with the hundreds of outfits and accessories the store offers. Can’t get much better than that!
DATE TOTAL = $20
Ice Skating — Admission $4, Skate Rental $3 (Young Arena, Waterloo, IA)
Nothing screams romantic like holding hands, skating around a rink. Especially with about thirty kids whizzing past you. But, it just makes the experience even more exciting. Your date will be full of laughs, smiles, and probably some falling… but of course they’ll be someone there to help you right back up. Make sure to grab some hot cocoa afterwards to top it all off!
DATE TOTAL = $14
Indoor Mini Golfing — $5/game (Crossroads Mall, Waterloo, IA)
Here’s a sport that requires very little physical activity. It’s indoors so you can look cute, be warm, and not get sweaty. Sound perfect? I thought so too. Plus, if you suck at golfing (like I do), maybe your boy can lend you a hand! No guy is going to say no to that.
DATE TOTAL = $10
Chuck E. Cheese’s — Admission free, tokens for games are $0.25/each or 50/$10
“Where a kid can be a kid.” Psssh, they mean college kids too. There’s more games than you can handle, delicious pizza, and even rides! Too bad the rides have a weight limit of about thirty pounds. But either way, if you and you date want to let loose and have some fun, this is definitely the place to go. Extra bonus? You can get your picture taken with Chuck. You know you want to.
DATE TOTAL = Varies
Puppy Love — Free!
Love animals? If so, nothing can beat a trip to the Cedar Bend Humane Society. There are lots of dogs ready to give slobbery kisses, cats ready to cuddle up with you, and even an occasional ferret or rabbit to hold! It’s great for them and a perfect date for you. Doing something good for the world will leave both you and your date feeling great for the rest of the day!
DATE TOTAL = $10
Snowshoeing — Rental costs $5/day for UNI students
Are you and your man the outdoorsy type? Then a day of snowshoeing probably sounds amazing. Head over to George Wyth Park and go explore. Maybe even carve your initials in a tree! It’ll be a day to remember. And you’ll probably have to keep each other warm. Ohhh, shoot.
DATE TOTAL = $10
Whatever you end up doing with your special Valentine is bound to be a great time. One recommendation though— Chocolate. Lots of chocolate.
