Campus Celebrity: Rayanna Bockenstedt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNI chapter.

She’s got a hectic schedule filled with all things UNI. Not only is she a resident assistant at Noehren, but she’s also involved with Orchesis Dance Company and a member of Pi Sigma Epsilon. This one is definitely a must read. Ladies and gens, meet Rayanna Bockenstedt!

Name:
Rayanna Bockenstedt

Hometown: Iowa City, IA

Year in school: Junior

Major: Management: Business Administration, Spanish

Job: Resident Assistant in Noehren Hall

Favorite Food: All sweets!

What is your favorite part of UNI? I love how small the campus feels yet the opportunities to get involved and the activities to go to are endless.

What is your favorite part of being an RA on campus?
I love interacting with my residents. Having a co-ed freshman house this year has kept me entertained and reminds me to enjoy what’s left of my time at UNI. I enjoy helping them to avoid the mistakes I made freshman year and answering the same questions I had two years ago.

Why did you choose UNI?
I wasn’t interested in Iowa, as I wanted to get away from home, so I originally considered both UNI and Iowa State. I chose UNI because I liked the idea of an institution that focused on education instead of research. I felt I would have better interactions with professors in a smaller class size setting.

What is your favorite college memory?
Some of my favorite memories are from time spent with the Noehren Hall Staff during RA training. I also had a blast at the dance conference I attended in Minnesota with the Orchesis Dance Company during Spring Break last year.

What are your plans after UNI?
If only I knew! At the moment I don’t have any set plans. I would like to start working and gain experience, with the intention of returning to graduate school one day. I plan on staying in the Midwest area close to my friends and family.

What activities are you involved with on campus?
I’m a member of Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE), a co-ed marketing fraternity, as well as Orchesis Dance Company. I’ve met some of my closest friends in PSE and it has been a great opportunity to network and improve my professional skills. I got involved in Orchesis my freshman year and have since become Vice President. Dance has always been a way for me to relax and de-stress.

What is your dream job?
My dream job would include traveling and working with people. I love experiencing new cultures and seeing new places!

What is your favorite clothing item in your closet and why? A good pair of jeans (I have a couple in mind). You can’t go wrong with a pair of jeans you feel confident in and work with your entire wardrobe.

What is one item on your Christmas list? A long wool pea coat; multiple coats are a necessity when living in Iowa.

What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy spending time with friends- shopping, eating out, road trips. During breaks from school I love reading and am a huge scrap booker!

Any inspiring quotes you like or live by?
“Sing like no one’s listening, love like you’ve never been hurt, dance like nobody’s watching, and live like its heaven on earth.”

Lottie is a junior at the University of Northern Iowa and she is a communications major with a journalism minor. She has always had a passion for fashion and writing, so she figured, why not combine them? She was a writer for Her Campus only one semester before becoming the Editor-in-chief and campus correspondent for fall of 2011. Lottie is very excited to take on the challenge and to make great things happen with Her Campus magazine.
