Why You Should Try Friends With Benefits

Why you Should Try Friends with Benefits

Recently, I decided to start being friends with benefits with my best friend at college.  In the past, I was always a girl that believed only in relationships. I did not want to be a part of something casual.

The first night my best guy friend and I met, we immediately started getting along.  We had the best conversations about our interests and found that we had a lot of things in common with each other.  At the time I had a boyfriend at home and I was not looking for anything so I just enjoyed making new friends with a group of boys on the same floor.

Over time, my best friend and I started becoming very close.  We went to the gym together and spent every day hanging out with each other and our big friend group.  Still to this day, it has been the most fun friend group I have ever been a part of.

After my boyfriend and I broke up, he was there for me and comforted me.  Him and one of my other guy friends made me watch endless amounts of the funniest YouTube videos to make me laugh since I spent all day crying in their room.

A little time passed and my best friend and I realized that we were attracted to each other and decided to start hooking up.  I could tell I had feelings for him because he had just always been there for me.

He made it pretty clear to me that he did not want anything serious and I decided that I would go with the flow.  It was all new to me though and honestly, I had no clue what I was doing. I decided to just sit back and enjoy the moment because it was making me happy.  I was not stressing about what would happen in the future.

A month passed and we had been hooking up with each other but were non-exclusive.  After we got back from spring break we had realized that we had feelings for each other and decided that we wanted to be something a little more than friends with benefits.

Not every friends with benefits story ends like this, but the month I had tried it, I had felt like I had enough time to myself to make my own decisions without a person attached to me.  I had tried something I had never done before and something great happened because of it. Even if you don’t end up with the person you’re hooking up with, it gives you time to breathe and think for yourself if you’re used to being in a relationship.  It could also go the other way, and lead into something greater. I am the happiest I have been in a really long time because I feel like my own person.
