As much as we love the free time college gives us sometimes we find ourselves wondering what to do with all of that free time. There are many things you can do to benefit yourself, others and take up your time not only in your room but at a beautiful campus like ours we are fortunate to have many clubs and activities. Here are a few ideas that could get you out of that boredom and passing your time away!

1.    Exercise

Not only is exercise great for your body but according to Harvard Medical School psychiatrist on health.usnew.com, “exercise is the single best thing you can do for your brain in terms of mood, memory, and learning.” So not only is it something to do and keeps your body healthy, but it will help you in school! If you don’t want to go to the gym even take a nice walk around campus, head up north to hike a beautiful mountain, or go for a jog! So get up and go release those endorphins!

2.    Read

Reading may not sound like the most appealing past time for everyone but you may surprise yourself! There’s a lot of good books out there that once you get into can pass a lot of time. If you’re sick of reading for classes maybe ease your mind with a book you can enjoy! Here are a few ideas of books to read that are an inspiring choice for young women.

1.    Nice is Just a Place in France: How to Win At Basically Everything By The Betches

2.    Eat, Pray, Love By Elizabeth Gilbert

                 3.   Yes Please By Amy Poehler

3.    Study

Although it may the number one thing you are avoiding when you’re sitting there bored out of your mind it can benefit you in so many ways! By studying when you have nothing else to do it can help you focus more, and once you’ve done it even for a thirty minutes or an hour you will end up feeling more accomplished with yourself!

Get a study group together, drag a friend to the library or just focus on yourself and getting stuff done! The A on the test or paper will definitely be worth it.

4.    Call your mom

Believe me she misses you! An unexpected call to your mom, dad, grandma or any family member or friend could make their whole day. And you may even get the nice gesture back unexpectedly someday when you need it most!

Tell someone how your day was, ask them how theirs was, countdown the days until you see the voice on the other end of the line, talk about anything and everything. When you’re blankly staring at the wall wondering what to do with your free time give someone a call, it could change their whole day.

5.    Clean

What else is better than a made bed, vacuumed floor or cleaned out fridge? Nothing. Who knows how long that leftover Sunday dinner your mom gave you has been sitting in your fridge, and only God knows what you could find under your bed. Take this time to get your room squeaky clean not only will you appreciate it but so will your roommates! And I promise your bed feels 100% better getting in it when it’s made rather than a bunch of blankets and sheets that probably haven’t been washed since you moved in.

6.    Find a club to do!

If you find yourself with a lot of free time at a reoccurring time of day or week try and fill that void with clubs or meetings! There are plenty, plenty, plenty of groups and organizations in this school that anybody can join. Search and you will be satisfied! Think of something you enjoy and I bet there’s a club around campus. There are various things to do around campus you just have to find what is right for you! Get involved, meet people and kill your boredom!

7.    Netflix

And of course the number one way to suddenly realize 4 or 5 hours has passed… watch Netflix. When school work is finished, you’ve studied until you just can’t read another word, the room is clean, your phone calls have been made, and your friends are busy it’s time to climb into bed and binge watch your guilty pleasures. Whether it’s a movie you’ve seen a thousand times, or it’s 10 episodes of Grey’s in a row, cuddle up and watch Netflix I promise time will pass just like that!

“The problem with binge-watching Netflix is that you lose three days of your life.”

– Harland Williams
